I have seen a few bios on Dan Harrington listing him as being involved in a roulette system developed by MIT. I have looked around and could only find out that they were discovered by the Sands Casino. I figured that the wheels are rebalanced and leveled so often any system would be impossible. Anyone know anything about it?

I know that current law states that you cannot use any covert devices to assist you while playing in a casino.

Roulette wheels are leveled regularly in most casinos. There have been a few different roulette computers developed and sold; some worked and some did not. With a real system it only takes a small amount of tilt to make it workable, having a person lean heavily on the corner of the table near the wheel can sometimes push it into the carpet enough to provide tilt.

Somewhere in the archives here is a long post I made a couple or few years ago in which I went into some detail about my experience playing on a roulette computer team. You're on your own to find it.

Electronic devices are a felony in Nevada and some (all?) other US states; we played in Europe and the Caribbean where there were no laws prohibiting it. The team made a lot of money in a short time.

My team was not connected with Harrington. It is possible we used the same type of computer since the developer sold five of them and kept a sixth for his own team.

"He joined forces with a small "Mission Impossible" team that relied on MIT-derived mathematical formulas to generate precise calculations for winning at roulette. They enjoyed a 40% edge on each spin -- until the Sands Hotel Casino in Atlantic City caught them."

I think "Mission Impossible" is overstating it -- but it was a clever device.
