Bonuses, or Bonii?

The point isn't what you say, but rather, how smart you sound when you say it, so I use either:

Bonuses "bonusees"

or

Bonii "boney-eye"

Bonuses. Bonus isn't a noun in Latin.

Why should the plural be "bonii"? If you adhere to Latin grammar rules, it should be boni. If you treat it as an English word, "bonuses" should be the correct form.

Edit: My dictionary says it is "bonuses".

Bonii's not all that funny, as words go. Why not call them platypuses? Or octopodes? Or fnords?

LOL, platypuses. They are funny. Can you imagine a platypus fighting a weasel? ROTFLOL! Platypuses. Ha!

I think we had this debate before and it was generally decided that people should put their dictionaries away and go chase bonii, at least by me. It's not Latin, it's not English, it's Whorish. Now start folding!

too bad you can't see the ages of the voters. I'm going to guess the majority of people that voted bonuses are over 25, and the majority of the people that voted on the much more hip and cool term boni, are under 25.

It can't be bonii. Didn't u guys have Latin at school?
If bonus was Latin it would be a male word. The nominativus (first case) plural ends with an "i" not "ii". So if bonus was Latin its plural would be "boni".

Doesn't matter, as long as people know what you are talking about.

I vote 'buenos.' It has a nice ring to it and has an international flavor. As previously stated, the term 'bonii' is not only gayer than gay, but has its roots in the dead language of Latin. Bonus hunting is anything but dead and true hunters are live, active members of society, not like that madman Frist.

I refer you to my post in a previous thread:

[ QUOTE ]
"Bonus" is derived from a scond declension Latin adjective meaning "good" so it is not pluralised with the standard "-i" ending as nouns would be (e.g. fungus), in any case it would be boni not bonii).

Many other English words are derived from non-noun Latin words such as "Ignoramus" meaning "we are ignorant", so its plural is "ignoramuses".

[/ QUOTE ]

Americans should of course continue to use bonii.
