There will be some internet qualifiers from overseas. But none from America, presumably.

Will it drop back to the Hachem level (~5500)? The Raymer level (~2500)?

I don't think it will drop at all, at least 10,000 next year.

Depends on the bill. Many prior entrants came from online satellites.

9000+, with the WSOP likely to be in London instead of Las Vegas so that Harrah's can hold a Gaming Lifestyle Expo and legally rake in the .com money.

The online poker market in Germany and France have exploded, and both Italy and Spain are now poised to do the same.

East Asia is on deck to join the poker craze in 2008, with Macau being the new hub of Texas Hold'em by then.

i think the asians prefer the obsure games rather than the texas holdem. there's no guarantee that poker will take off in asian. and how many percentage of this year's entry came by way of the online satellites?

I think OliverT is a "nuisance" bot. There really is no such person, just a bot that uses Ho, China, Macau, Harrah's, WPTE, Lipscomb, phone is tapped, WSOP in London in meaningless, but meaningful sounding sentences.

I don't care that he showed up at the WSOP dinner, he is a bot to me.

I'm not disputing that - I just don't think the law will do a great deal of anything but sell newspapers.

You realize that the two biggest online poker sites are most likely going to ban American players, right?

And the law certainly isn't selling newspapers...its almost impossible to find a newspaper story about it.

In the unlikely case that Party & co don't change their minds before getting sued by their shareholders for their idiocy, there are plenty others who will take the business.

Here's the problem, though.

The casino (e.g., Rio) has the accept the buy-in from the Poker site.

This would be illegal under the new law.

You're the first person I've heard to suggest this.

If PS stays open to US players and the other smaller players who've indicated they are staying open do indeed keep accepting US players, and the over/under stays at 7800...

Then I'll gladly take the over.

A lot of ifs, I know. But I'm an optimist so I'd take the over now, with those issues still unresovled.

I already bet the over. Considering that online poker was not made illegal and sanctions aren't likely to be implemented until the middle of next year (and these sanctions may not even affect Neteller), I can't see why the WSOP doesn't continue to grow.

That is a great line for them. The ballpark estimate is right at 7500. I wouldn't touch that bet but if I was a total degenerate I would go with the over. It will tick up to 8000. Most people who win the cash instead of the voucher will still play in the ME.

Save this thread my friend. I may be delusional but the ME will not shrink by more than 20% next year. The earlier events will take big hits but the ME will be fine for the next few years at least.

This is exactly what I think. They will be very lucky to get over 3000 players. It will probably be around 2500 tops. The poker boom is over, thanks to Bill Frist and his Republicans.

There's a very good chance that nothing will change as far as winning a ME seat online (accept not on Party ect...). Last year I filled out all of the registration forms myself. Bodog provided the forms but I completed the paper work myself (including providing a Harrah's players card #). Bodog then forwarded the registration to Harrah's and wired the entry fee to Harrah's.

Published 10/18 on pokerlistings.com

Thompson said that the registration policy for the WSOP wasn't changed by the enactment of the UIGEA.

"There has been no change in our registration policy," he said. "We do not accept third-party registrations from online pay-to-play poker sites that do business with U.S. residents. We didn't do that in 2005 or 2006 either."
