Expect a small field at the USPC with most of the big names missing, as most of the 64 players who have been invited to take part in the made-for-TV Professional Poker League (PPL) will skip the Trump USPC in order to get guaranteed TV exposure time at the PPL "inaugural draft" this Saturday at the Venetian in Las Vegas.

Not only is the PPL the "PPT-killer", the PPL is now officially the "USPC-killer".

One big name that will likely be at the USPC is Greg Raymer, as he was NOT selected for the PPL.

The USPC didn't take as big a hit from the PPL as I expected: 216 players, or about 1/2 the size of the field of the WPT at the Borgata two weeks ago.

The PPL's attempt at being the "USPC-killer" didn't work as well as the PPL's successful attempt to put the PPT "in the coffin."

Everyone that played in the $5,000 7 stud event made the final table! Only 8 people entered it.

I guess its almost time to pull the plug on that one. I have not played 7 stud in a casino since the mid 90's and it looks like I am not alone.

Yup.

There is no reason for any casino to hold a tournament that contains events that aren't "NO LIMIT HOLD'EM" events with the exception of the WSOP.

TV has turned poker into an ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCT, with the only type of poker that works well on TV being NO LIMIT HOLD'EM (and to a much lesser extent, POT limit hold'em).

That's bizarre. The 7-stud event at Borgata drew 157 players. Obviously that's less than the NLHE events were drawing, but thats a hell of a lot more than eight.

That was for a 5k event, last year their largest stud event ($2500+100) drew 55. The other two stud events held during the USPC this year did draw fewer entrants (178 for the $340, 110 for the $550 this year).

It's a real shame that neither of these guys won it. Alex Jacobs is obviously an extremely talented poker player. Too bad his character doesn't match his skill.
