I've read the articles about documenting live sessions for taxes, and I keep notes, but are they serious about wanting the names of people you play with? Does anyeone actually do this, take everyone's name and write it down in a booklet at the casino? I was thinking of just writing the hours played and the table number or something like that. Would receipts from casino ATMs or anything like that be advisable, or is the journal all that's needed?

My journal contains:

Casino, table #, stakes, game type, buy-in/cash-out, start and ending times.

I know about the 'name' requirement but I'm sure the IRS knows that's 'impossible' at a public poker room.

At any rate, I had to show my journal to the IRS and I had no problem.
