What do you guys make of Harrah's new $5000 buy-in NL championships at each circuit event? Do you think that they pros are upset that they cannot play for higher stakes?

it really might actually be a plus for the better players. at least not a huge loss. the events were only drawing 80 or so people anyway. so with a 5K buy in they are going to draw more players at least more satellite winners.

ALso since they are not on tv anymore the big name players were not going to show up anyway.
There are enough 10K events that the pros are not traveling everywhere to play these things.
In general the WPT circuit draws more people so these are the better donkaments to go to anyway.

Although there were 4 WSOP bracelets that finished in the ME money (don't know about the entire 117 entry list) at the Tahoe Circuit last week, I agree that the top pros won't be at the 2006-2007 5K circuits. Looks like Harrah's is changing the circuit's marketing to get the good & better players there and "discourage" the big boys by offering a lot of satellites and a WSOP ME seat as part of the circuit ME prize pool.

The 4 WSOP bracelets I noticed who cashed in the Sept 17th 2006 WSOP Circuit were, in order of finish at the Circuit:

6th Burt Boutin (2001 Pot Limit)
8th Scott Clements (2006 Omaha Hi Lo 8 or better)
9th Paul Kobel (2006 $1500 No Limit)
16th Joe Petro Jr. (1987 7 Stud Split)

I have said this a number of times to a number of people:

If a poker tournament is NOT on TV, then it does NOT matter to the entertainment industry.

The 2006-2007 WSOP Circuit $5150 buy-in events currently have NO TV contract.

Therefore, the 2006-2007 WSOP Circuit $5150 buy-in events don't matter a whole lot in the big entertainment industry picture.
