View Full Version : Borgata Poker Open: Roll Call

09-11-2006, 02:11 PM
I know it's a little early in the week, but what can I say... I'm excited.

Who else plans to be down there for the Main Event?

As usual, we should plan to meet up somewhere. I figure the WPT Kickoff Party at Mixx on Thursday night might be a good place. It goes from, 8pm-10pm with no cover, and apparently will be hosted by our good friends Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari.

Driving up Thursday afternoon, staying at the Borgata til Monday morning (unless I FT this bastard, in which case I'll stay longer).

Edit: Apparently FTP has a dinner Thursday night (I won a Winners' Choice sat) where I'll get to meet some OMG PRO POKER PROFESSIONAL POKER PLAYERS. But going to the club with no cover sounds good too. Though, to be honest, I'd rather be gambling like a degenerate and drinking $1 vodka-clubs and Heinekens than paying for super-expensive drinks in a crowded, noisy club.

Well, the dinner is for me and a guest, but I already promised that guest spot to a friend. Meh, seeing as FTP has yet to give me either a time or a location for this dinner, I'm tempted to say it will be unorganized enough to sneak into with relative ease.

Dear Leo,

We will be meeting at the Main Cage / Tournament Registration Desk at
8:00PM on the 14th of Sept to buy you into the tournament. Ask any of the
poker room staff where it is and they can point you in the right
direction. Please make sure that you have a valid ID and a players card
with you so that the registration process is as quick and painless as
possible. I will be wearing a Full Tilt Poker hat.

For dinner we will be eating at the Bobby Flay Restaurant at the Borgata
at 9PM. Your gear packages will be handed out during the dinner.

Please feel free to reply to this email if you have any questions.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you,

JD

Got here at 9, went to FTP dinner which turned out to be possible NVG gold. Played 2/5 for a while in the new room, ran super hot, had a few drinks. Saw someone that looked a lot like strassa playing in the hi-limit room, probably because it was him, as I was leaving and surveying the room. Saw nate1729.

Table 33, seat 7 tomorrow. GL all.

The SB in that hand was Carmine Tirone, he won the main event of the Borgata Summer Open for like a quarter mil, I've played in a few tourneys w/ him and he's played well every time. Very nice guy too. His smoothcall w/ AA here seems odd.

Superfluous Man here on a friend's computer, too lazy to change usernames. I'm at like 27.7k at the dinner break. Got up to 33k, then bluffed my way down to 20k. Won a race with QQ vs. AK against Joe Sebok to get up to 44k or so. Before the break, lost 15k or so with JJ on a T337 two-diamond board. Almost got away from it, but the possibility of singleton tens pushing, or FD+overs pushing some underpair pushing, or some random move to get me off a hand because I had been folding to raises a lot, and the ~2:1 odds I was getting made me call. He had TT. Meh, I suck.

Hopefully my coinflip luckbox will still be good.

Superfluous Man
09-15-2006, 11:19 PM
45300 to end the day. Got moved right at the beginning of the final level. At that point I had like 27k. I donked off some chips to get down to 21k, then went on a nice rush of squeezing and picking up AA to get back near the average.

I really feel like I played really donkishly in a lot of spots today. I totally blow at poker, maybe my luckbox will be strong tomorrow.

Also, my lower back really [censored] hurts, those chairs are brutal.

Anyone else still in/want to gambool or have a few drinks tonight? I'm really not tired at all, but I have to find a way to sleep.

09-15-2006, 11:50 PM
30,200 at the end of the day. Was up to 63,000 but then took a bit of a tumble at the end of the day. Was down as low as 18,000, but I've been fighting back.

I think 30K is more than enough to make some moves tomorrow. I'm still looking to go deep here.

My starting table was sick though. Cunningham 2 seats to my right and Ted Forrest to my left. They're both busted now though /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I.R. busto in something like 140th. Had a nice chance to get back to average when I got KK in vs. KQ on a QJx flop for like an 80k pot. Turn A river T to chop it [censored] ME TO GOD DAMN TEARS. Eventually jammed over utg raiser with AK, he calls with TT and I'm drawing dead on the turn. Then went and played blackjack and won like $375, then ate a big burger, played 5/10 live (nearly falling asleep at the table) and lost $1k with an overpair vs. some steaming dude's bottom 2. Naptime, then maybe drinking time. I might play that $810 live donkament tomorrow cause, um, eventually I'll play good live one of these days.

If CardPlayer's reporting is accurate, Mark just won a HUGE hand. 15 players remaining, and Mark's in 2nd and Jennifer Tilly is a close 3rd entering this hand:

Per CardPlayer.com:
Jennifer Tilly Eliminated 15th ($52,380)
"Jennifer Tilly raises to $60,000 preflop and is called Mark Newhouse. The flop comes K/images/graemlins/heart.gifJ/images/graemlins/heart.gif7/images/graemlins/diamond.gif and Tilly bets $95,000. Newhouse makes the call and the turn is the Q/images/graemlins/club.gif. Tilly fires $300,000 and Newhouse moves all in. After several minutes, Tilly makes the call and shows Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif7/images/graemlins/spade.gif for two pair. However, Newhouse flips over A/images/graemlins/heart.gif10/images/graemlins/diamond.gif for the nut straight. The A/images/graemlins/club.gif on the river does not improve Tilly and she is eliminated from the tournament."

1. Mark Newhouse - 3,200,000
2. Athanasio Diakos - 2,100,000
3. Shawn Chaconas - 1,155,000
4. Chris Bell - 1,132,000
5. Chris McCormack - 917,000
6. David Sklansky - 855,000
7. William Blanda - 800,000
8. Blaise Ingoglia - 600,000
9. Louis Russo - 540,000
10. Avdo Djokovic - 488,000
11. John "Brock" Parker - 400,000
12. Steve Levinson - 360,000
13. Anthony Argila - 253,000
14. Lee Markholt - 220,000

The work's by no means done, but newhizzle's current stack would be about 1.5x the average TV Table stack (they play down to six today).

When you're hot...

Again, from CardPlayer.com:
Brock Parker Eliminated 10th ($68,094)
"Brock Parker raises to $75,000 from early position and the action folds around to Mark Newhouse in the big blind. Newhouse re-raises all in and Parker calls. Newhouse turns over 9/images/graemlins/club.gif9/images/graemlins/diamond.gif and Parker is holding A/images/graemlins/spade.gifA/images/graemlins/heart.gif. The flop comes J/images/graemlins/heart.gif8/images/graemlins/club.gif7/images/graemlins/club.gif. The turn is the 2/images/graemlins/club.gif and the river is the Q/images/graemlins/club.gif, giving Newhouse the flush on the river and eliminating Brock Parker in 10th place."

Brock Parker = t_soprano, so I'm sure the two have played together quite a bit in the big online limit games.

Nine left, Sklansky's on the short stack with an M around 5 or 6, and newhizzle's now above $3.6M. Average TV Table stack will be in the neighborhood of $2.2M or $2.3M.
