Day one

Attempt to check into the Borgata with no Borgata club card or previous experience at the casino. Essentially get laughed at- 250 a night? Mmmmmk, let’s hit the poker room.

1 2 w/ 300 max- different than the 100 max I’m relatively accustomed to- deeper? Aaiiiiiiighty then.

Memorable hands.

Within the second orbit of the table I limp 9T dd from mp, Hijack makes it 12 total- one terrible player flat calls between us, I (another terrible player) call cause 9t suited is my favorite hand.

QJ8ddd flop……what’s that raiser? Top set? Top boat? No good, thankyou sir.

Raise to 7 EP w/ 77HD, I’m oh so tricky. I bust into my “SEVEN, SEVENS THE NUMBER SEE?! Seven squirrels, twirling on a branch on my uncle’s ranch,” schtick. No one else is apparently a Something about Mary fan and I look absolutely insane.
4 callers
K97 ss flop. BB bets out 15, utg limper raises to 30, I make it 75. BB folds. UTG thinks for a second then crams for 100 more- I prepare myself to eye up the cooler but his KJ no S is drawing v thin- ship it all.

78cc in the bb, greek tough guy makes it 10 from mp, 2 callers to me- at this point I’m about 800 deep and playing anything decent. 78 suited is very much in that range despite being out of position at this table

69J flop CSS, Pot 40, i check, OR makes it 25 to go- some dude flat calls inbetween us (thank you sir), I call.

5c turn (obv), I check- OR bets 55, other guy flat calls again, and I raise to 833 total or some huge number. OR KK…..calls off another 160- flat caller folds a jack which later turned into trips (niiiice)

I only reraised someone all in drawing completely dead once…..GO ME! I read so good.

Cash out up 1k at 1 2 for about 9 hours….i was up to 400 then back to 2 around 7 then from 7-10:30 ran up 900 plus…….a very solid start.

Sightings

Paul the Truth Darden
The asian “PROFESSIONAL POKER PLAYER!” guy- he did it for me when I saw him strolling through the casino and pointed at him- good times.

Decide it’s time to start looking for a hotel room and sign up for the tournament. 300+
players at the time that I sign up.

As I leave the surface parking lot at the Borgata I ask the attendant for the nearest cheap hotel. I am directed towards the Comfort inn (I think that’s the name, lemme peek out the bullet hole in my door) Nope it’s the Sunset inn…..

He tells me some ridiculously confusing directions for driving around this anus of a city. I get lost several times (6 blocks I believe he said). I end up going down Indiana Ave and I’m in the HOOD. I know hoods, and this is some ghetto ghetto [censored]. Windows up, tired, doors locked and completely clueless I finally find this establishment. 2 cars in the parking lot w/ about 20 rooms. Room rate? 50- SHIP IT. Get in the room- immediately notice bullethole stick 2000 cash in my sock in my shoes…..Seems the area near the door has been re-sheetrocked- like some pimp put his foot through the door looking for an AWOL crackwhore within the last 20 hours.

Flip up the mattress and see no bedbugs or bloodspots. Sheets smell relatively clean- toilet has some strap over the seat called a “Sanitary strap” to prove that it’s been cleaned………I’m not buying it. I want shower shoes to walk on the carpet in this [censored].

Alas my 2+2 brethren, I must get some sleep. Lemme slip into my HAZMAT suit and set off a bug bomb and go to la la land.

To be continued……

Why not just stay at the borgata? I just booked a room for 4 nights (Thurs 14th - Sun 17th); at the tournament rate it doesn't even come to $700 total (just make sure you show them a tournament receipt at checkout, or something). Also, I'll probably be sharing the room with at least 1 other person, so $350 for 4 nights of luxury hotel (plus the convenience) is a pretty good deal IMO.

When I get there and donk my way out of the WPT event, want to get hammered? Anyone else playing this and want to get hammered/gamble like degenerates?

Edit: Also, very entertaining report. Another big positive for staying at the borgata is that there's no wandering through the hood.

Just stayed at the Borgata Monday thru Tuesday ... tournament rate $125 plus tax total $152.

My fav AC hotel, waking up with floor-to-ceiling views of the Atlantic Ocean and South Jersey shore down to Cape May just does it. And the bathroom is friken cool.

Did someone say hammered? I'd love to be playing however I am bound by this job from hell. On a similar note I plan on playing a few of the smaller events at the USPC coming up. Does anyone know the structure of say the $300 events? I'm thinking it is 5k stack w/ 25-50 blinds, 30 min levels. Sound about right?

Oh man this post is making me want to go to the Borgata!!!

BTW, I played with that Asian professional guy in 1-2 NL a couple of weeks ago. He was HILARIOUS. One hand, he went allin and got called. His hand held up, he slammed his fist on the table and screamed at the top of his lungs, "THAT'S THE PROFESSIONAL BABY!!!!"

Don't stay in town outside of the casinos and other big hotels. Stay at the motels in the suburbs on Rt. 30 or Rt. 40.

i am completely unfamiliar with the area

someone said something about going out of absecon or up to absecon which would be up route 30.

would have made good sense. The sunset inn will be my perma digs in AC- gotta keep it real.

edit-

the next 2 days of my trip really took the wind out of my sails and i don't think i'll be writing reports for my live tourney debacles. Look for hands posted in the mtt forum.

Im driving up to AC on the 17th and playing in event #13 on the 18th. I also got the tournament rate of $129 a night. That is hard to beat to be "on site".

Love to hook up with any 2+2ers for drinks, chat, etc.

PM me.

The $300 USPC tournies give you 3K in chips with 40 minutes levels. The $500 ones give you 5K in chips, also with 40 minute levels. They start at 25-50, but they probably escalate very quickly as per usual with Taj tournies. I hate that they go from 100-200 w/no ante to 200-400 w/25 ante. It basically divides your M by 3 in one level. Not cool. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I'm going to the Borgata tonight to play in cash games. Anyone there for the Open?

This is about the level of play I encountered on Thursday and Friday in the $2/$5 NLHE games at the Borg (with the exception of a solid table Thursday night).

+$3k in 16 hours of play and the pots I lost in bad beats were around $2k. But for running spades my total would have been over $4.5k in that amount of time... I look forward to going back soon.

The Borgata NL tournaments also go straight from 100-200 to 200-400 w/25 ante. But they also have 60 minute levels and the 3rd level is 75-50.

The $500+60 Limit event at Borgata actually had a much slower structure than the no-limit events, starting at 25-25 blinds with 4000 starting chips. We played 15 hours on the first day to get down from 290 to 27, and by then everyone was complaining about how slow the tournament was going and swearing they would never play in another limit tournament. Guess you can never please everyone.

I like the 40 min levels but yea the jump from 1-2 to 2-4 is pretty gay. I'll probably give 1 a shot on a sunday. Any idea how big of a crowd to expect in these?
