I just looked at the Circuit event information for the Tahoe event being held at Harveys (http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/events/eventinfo.sps?eventid=37774). What a joke...

Bad: $300 buy in, $40 entry fee. Nice, 13.3% juice on this tournament. Oh yeah, another 3% is being withheld for the tournament staff from the prize pool.

Good: 40 minute blind levels

Bad: 10 minute breaks every 2 levels, NO dinner break. "dinner breaks may be added at the discretion of the tournament director. Play will continue to one table or 2am, whichever comes first.

Wtf? Tourny starts at noon and they want players to go 14 hours with no dinner break?

Good: Structure is pretty decent for the first event.

Bad: Just looked at structure for Main Event. Much faster blind increase but 75 minute levels with NO BREAKS for 9 hours+ play each day.

Harrahs...why? Did we learn nothing from the WSOP at the Rio this year?

I believe in the WSOP said dinner breaks were at the discretion of the tournament director.

it says right there there is a 15-minute break after every level. The structure is pretty much identical to the Bellagio 5K event, except with 15-minute-longer levels, which is a huge improvement. Any idea how many people will show?

As for the dinner breaks...I played deep into an event there a year ago and I'm pretty sure they did give us a dinner break. I assume if they're not giving one this year that they're providing some way for players to eat (like the Bike does during its tournaments) and the lack of a dinner break is actually fine by me in that case.

Are you sure it's at Harvey's? I didn't see any mention of it.

They're listing it as being at Harrah's Lake Tahoe.

Just going by what a few people from that area have told me. Something about Harveys having more room /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Harvey's has a small poker room, but I thought Harrah's convention area was bigger. I haven't been there in awhile though, so my memory is shaky.

That's probably the case. Most likely I was just given incorrect information but these joints are right near each other anyways.

when i was in tahoe 3 weeks ago, harveys had expanded their room and had like 22ish tables and a further open back space in front of the hard rock to expand with more tables. if its bigger than like 70 table event it would have to be at a bigger location imo.

There is NO TV contract for the 2006-2007 WSOP Circuit at this time.

The $5150 buy-in events on the WSOPC probably won't draw more than 200 players each.

I think the draw for this tourney is going to be weak. They changed the time of year for this event, and there is poor advertising.

The structure doesn't bother me, although the juice is high (as usual for Harrah's) It is at Harveys-- there is more room there.

See you at the $5K double stacked main event....

So it's just like the Harrahs "Paris" Circuit event that was never held at Paris, but actually held at Ballys. Gotcha

Is it in a convention area? I can't imagine the poker area has room for two concurrent tournaments plus satellites plus cash games.

El D,

The last $1K Circuit event in Tahoe held on a Saturday (June 10th) had a field of 145.

That same week in Tahoe they also had a $1K event held on a Tuesday (June 13th) with a field of 108.

In the fine print of the blind structure for the satellites to the Lake Tahoe/Harvey's circuit event, it states: "Players winning subsequent satellites will receive 10 ($500) tournament chips + $150 in cash"

http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/events/eventinfo.sps?eventid=37774

Does this mean a player could start the main event with $15K or even $20K or more in chips if they are sucessfull at multiple satellites? Or are these tournament chips to be used for entry into other WSOP events? Just wondering if anybody knows anything about this...

i played (??) the mega super $550 last night. they had 23 players for two seats. i didn't get one because i am a megadonk. i should have won one though.

the $330 mega earlier has 69 people for 3 seats i think.

the players sucked big time. some had won their entry into the mega from a radio station promo and they had no clue. they limped, called and min-raised. i can't believe i didnt get a seat. hee haw.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's just like the WSOP in Vegas was - they hold one whenever there is enough demand and there is a dealer and table available.

Which size they hold depends on which Circuit events are coming up. They want you to use the buy-in chips to enter the cash tournaments. On Thursday they were running $45's, which paid a $200 chip and cash because the Friday Circuit event had a $330 buy-in. On Friday they ran only satellites that paid $500 chips ($65's and $120's) because the Saturday tourney had a $1050 buy-in, etc. The rake was $100 on the $45's, the same amount as on the $120's.

The play was fairly solid Thursday night, which gives you a decent shot if you're a solid player. It went way downhill on the weekend. Things like calling all-in pre-flop with TJ, dissertations on why TJ is a better hand than JJ because it can draw to more combinations, etc. About half of every table plays like the typical 3-6 limit game, which would be okay if you can be patient enough to wait out the lucky streaks. The problem is the chip structure really only allows for about two losing hands. You get $500 in the $65's and $800 in the $120's. Blinds start at 25-25 in both.

3-5 (Max 1000)
5-10 (Min 500, No CAP)

I recommend playing really drunk in the 2/3 (Max 300)

Take your pick

I was up there the same day as Renodoc and the $45 and $65 single table sats were running continuously. They could not get any interest for 115's or higher /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Side game action: 2x 3/6 Holdem, 2x 1/2 NL were running. I asked about starting up 6/12, 10/20 and 2/5 NL lists the dealer working the list flat out told me "i'm not doing that, see someone else later". Then I went and spoke with a floorman about this. He told the dealer to start up the lists and again the dealer said "i'm not doing that crap, you do it". I'm like...WTF??? So I sat and played 3/6 and left in about 2 hours. Very unprofessional in the cash game area.

pig4bill
09-11-2006, 12:00 AM
Yeah, I played some cash limit to break up the monotony of playing satellites, and I agree that a few of the cash side employees acted like they were doing you a big favor. They moved really slowly with a sour look on their face. The floor guys I encountered were the complete opposite though.

One of the sat directors, Nick, is a very good friend of mine and he was having a blast running the show up there. The guy has a ton of experience and knows basically everything about casinos. (40 years + experience) He was doing a great job when I stopped by for a visit. Was a pleasant surprise to see him working up there.

Played the no limit stud/hold em event today. 47 entries. Not bad for a change but NL stud kinda sucks.

I think a PL omaha/holdem event would be much cooler.

That's great. I thought they were only paying entries to the $5k buy-in event. Were there too few entries to pay a seat? The ones on the weekend had enough to pay a seat, so the cash payout was minimal. I played in one just for grins and got to the final table, but severely short-stacked, and went out soon after. I cashed in the first $330 buy-in event, but just barely.

Hmmm, the 5-10 (ultimately 5-10-20) on Sunday evening featured two pretty aggressive stacks. Blind bets between 60 and 400 were not unknown. At least one 100k pot was played. There was 330k active on the table at one time. Its the biggest 5-10 that I've seen. Sit in the 2-3 or play silly over vig'd sats if you want.

Lake Tahoe WSOP Circuit Main Event $5000+$150 10,000 chips 75 min levels
127 players, paying 18

I think this will be a decent tourney for me. There aren’t that many people, and few pros. Plus, I won 3/5 of my seat last night in a single table sattleite. Blinds start at 25-50.

I get a little frisky early on, making a raise to 150 with Tc8c. I get called by the BB. Flop comes 7-8-A with one club. He checks and I take a stab at it. He calls. Turn is another club. He checks again, and now I’ve decided to give up on the hand. I check behind. River is another club. Sweet. He bets 500. I raise to 1500. He calls with his set of sevens. I like the chips, but I’m not that happy having to show this hand so early. So be it.

A couple hands later I play As7s on the button for a small raise. I flop a flush draw and call a small bet. I turn the flush and when the button makes it 400, I pull the trigger too fast when I make it 1400. He folds.

Folded to me on the button. I have Kd5d. Meh. But I want to test the blinds and I raise. BB calls. Flop is K-Q-8, two hearts. He checks, I bet, he calls. Turn is 5h. Two pair, but the flush is out. Now he bets, but not too much. I raise, he calls. Hmmmm. River is another 5. Bingo. He bets 800. I make it 3000 and he calls and then mucks.

The UTG player makes it 175. I make it 600 with TT. He reraises another 2000 and I muck. This is the best pocket pair I will see.

I end the first level with 14000.

Second level, 50-100. I have some small pocket pairs. Lots of them in fact. I have 77, 88, 33, 44, 55. I either take down the pot with a small raise, or I get action and don’t make my set and have to fold to overcards.

The button now limps and I raise to 400 with AJo. He calls. Flop comes J-2-2. I bet 800, he pushes. He’s raised preflop often, and most of the time showed big cards. I don’t really smell a trap here. I call. He has KJ and he’s busto and now I have close to 20,000 in chips.

I pick up 88 UTG and decide to just limp and try to hit my set. UTG+1 (tight player) makes it 400. Next guy, kinda crazy, makes it 1000. Folded back to me. I have a big stack, but the crazy guy has me covered and I’m very concerned that the tight player has me beat. I muck. Tight guy calls. Flop comes 8-high…..

Third level. 100-200

There is this aussie? Pro two to my right. He’s been very active. At one point he got short and he pushed all his chips on a flop that completely missed him and he showed the bluff. Very reckless I think. In any event, he’s tricky—but he certainly likes to raise a lot and is capable of making some moves. I pick up AKo in the BB. There is a limper and then the aussie limps and the SB completes. Pot is now 800. I make it 800 more. First limper folds. Aussie then pushes for another 4800. SB folds. I have him well covered. I figure he has a medium pocket pair. I doubt very much he would do this with a big pair. I think there is a small but definite chance that he has an Ace that I dominate. I take a long while. He goes silent. He puts shades on. I start talking to him. “Funny way to play a big hand” “Oh, I’ve got a huge pair” he says. Well, with that I’m sure he doesn’t and I call. He’s got 88 and I miss. Damn. I dunno if this was correct. With the dead money and assuming I’m at worst a coinflip and possibly 70% I think it is right.

Well that sucks. I’m down to 13-14K or so. I pick up AJ and raise and the BB reraises another 1000. I should dump it but I convince myself to call. Flop is ragged and he pushes. I muck, lamenting the 1000 I just gave away.

The crazy guy from before somehow makes it 3500 to go with blinds at 100-200. Idiot. Well, someone wakes up with AA behind him and pushes and he calls with his JJ. Crazy guy gone, and now we have a gigantimatic chip leader. This guy starts playing more pots and bullying. He makes an unusual minraise in mid-position. Red flag. I call from the BB with QTo. Flop comes Q-high with two hearts. Hmmm. He bets 800. I need to know if I’m good here or not. I will raise right now and dump if he reraises. I make it 2000. He makes it another 3000. Ok. You got your info. Now don’t ignore it. I don’t like his minraise at all now. I muck. 8000 or so left.

I pick up AKo again in the SB. The chipleader makes it 600 and he’s called by the button. OK, nice time for a reraise squeeze with the best hand. I don’t want to play this three way anyway, so I have to raise. Well, I raise too much. I make it 3000 to go when 2000 would have done the same thing. Biggie mucks, but button thinks and calls. Yuck. I’m gonna push almost any flop. I hit. K-Q-8. Nice. I push. He calls. F-word. He seems to hesitate when I flip over my King first, but after the ace comes out he shows his set of 8’s. An ace on the turn keeps me hopeful but the river bricks and its over that fast.
