I have a friend looking to learn specifically No Limit Hold'em. He is interested in playing all forms of NL.. Ring Games, Sit-n-go's, & Tournaments.

Please tell me what each book's focus is in terms of what kind of game it's for (Tournaments etc.) and your opinion as to the order in which they should be read.

Feel free to add your opinion as to whether there should be any other books in his curriculum... Specifically in regards to NL Beginner books (aside from Getting Started In Hold'em).

Thanks! I appreciate the help since I only play limit.

Getting Started in Hold'em
Harrington On Hold'em V1
Harrington On Hold'em V2
Kill Phil
Little Green Book
Supersystem 2
Pot-Limit & No Limit Poker

i would recommend learning and mastering limit first. then move to no-limit. i think limit gives you such a feel for the cards and the odds etc., and the chances of losing huge $$$$ is much less (i know there's this huge debate about which has more variance, but common sense says no-limit).

i like that russell fox book as a beginning no-limit book (he'd need a beginning texas holdem book like gary carson's or ed miller GSIH)... harrington 1 would be good for cash games.

for cash games:
Getting Started in Hold'em
Harrington On Hold'em V1
Supersystem 2
Little Green Book
Pot-Limit & No Limit Poker

for tournaments:
Kill Phil
Harrington On Hold'em V1
Harrington On Hold'em V2

orders based on intended audience, not value. for instance, i think HOH are the best two books for tournaments, but kill phil is a better place to start for a n00b.

If he is a newbie I highly recommend Lee Jones 'Winning Low Limit Holdem' as this will give him a good foundation to build from. Another good book is Gary Carson the 'Complete Book of Holdem.' Which also build on your foundation and knowledge. I dont know if I would recommend Harrington books to a newbie, I think those books assume you already have a decent game and are looking to improve your tourney game in NL

Okay, question regarding Little Green Book...

Here it's listed for Cash Games and I've seen it recommended for Cash Games before...

But I've heard others mention it's more geared toward Tournaments.

From my understanding, Harrington on Hold'em is a Tournament V1 book who's advice is also applicable toward Cash Games. It's pretty clear.

But it seems to me that Little Green Book sometimes gets mentioned as a Cash Game book only.

So, my question is... Little Green Book's advice geared more toward Cash Game Play or Tournament Play?

It's more for tournaments, although some of it is applicable to cash games.
