Villian just sat down at table. I just called the river because i couldn't see any better hands folding to a reraise. Is that to weak tight?

No worse hand calls a river raise, but the only hand that will call/reraise beats you. You played this hand perfectly.

You can make an argument for a bet/fold line on the river... but I think you make more money by trying to induce a bluff or bet out of trip 8's.

Isn't it unlikely that villians have a made hand that i can beat here? Seems to me that checking allows me to make money when villians take a stap at an uncontested pot and lose less when they have me beat.

you don't have any assurance that someone will bet. someone with a weak T may call a bet, but not make one.
