View Full Version : Registration Filling Up?

AcesUp

Don't know if the cage person was misinformed or not, but a friend of mine tried registering in-person for the Main Event this morning, and was told that the only day not sold out was Friday, and that there were only a few hundred seats still available for Friday.

If anyone has info to the contrary (like anyone who might register today), I'd love to know...

Has there been any sort of running count (even an unofficial one) released recently that has indicated how many players are currently registered?

That would suck for a lot of people.

Is there a difference between 'registration filling up'/'event selling out' and 'Harrah's trying to funnel players to Day 1A'? Because the latter sounds like what's happening.

Definitely agree...just a matter of what can you do when the cashier tells you that you can't register for the day you want...

There has to be a lot of seats left - there are 2 super-satellite days on Wed/Thur that will generate at least a couple hundred more seats above and beyond all the people getting there this week to register.

I want to know this too, as I would like to go out and play in the ME, but don't want to get out there and find out I can't play. I called their hotline, but basically it's just a recording and lets you leave a message that will be returned in 72hrs /images/graemlins/frown.gif I was planning on getting there Thurs early morning and registering - you think there will be seats left?

I spoke to the Rio today and they told me there were "well over 6,000" registered. Who knows if that is true, but even assuming it is, since they have room for at least 8,000 (and quite possibly more), I doubt it will sell out.

Just my opinion...

All I can tell you is that last year they said the same thing about it filling up and there were plenty of seats left. - That was just for 6,000 to - I think you will be fine - The more the merrier as I want that pot as big as possible:)

I heard on Bluff radio that Friday was empty compared to the other days. Their reason was that the final table of the media event will prevent having a "Feature Table" that will be televised on ESPN. So if you play on Friday you have little chance of playing on TV. I think this is why the pro's are skipping 1A too. They said once 1A got to the same numbers as the other days, they would start selling the other days again.

The event is not full. But you dont have the option of all 4 starting days any more. Some of the days are more in demand (of course) than others, so the registration is *locked* for the popular days until the rest of them catch up. 3 of the 4 days were open when I registered last Friday. Day C is the most in demend and has been locked for quite some time.

The approximate counts to the best of my recollection as they were told to me were:
A - 1000
B - 1300
C - 1700
D - 1200

As a follow-up, I spoke with two people from the WSOP today, and both confirmed that *for now* Friday is the only day available for registration, until they get enough Friday entrants to even out the days.

I imagine that once Friday starts to fill up, other days may become available, but that is likely not to happen until at least Thursday evening when registrations are likely to increase dramatically.

Probably not for airing on ESPN but to make a tape for PR and networking purposes for ESPN and there relationship with other media orgs.

I imagine that they'll still have seats through at least Friday morning (in fact, I'd be real surprised if they sold-out). At the very least, I confirmed with the tournament director that they will have alternates if the tournament "sells out"...

11 handed would suck.
but yeah you should not get shut out considering 11 handed means they can go to 8800 alternates means they could probably get it to 9500.
im guess a total of 8500 runners now.

As of today, there are 6,010 people registered for the ME, according to the monitor outside of the poker room.

There is a big easle type of stand with a sign that said "44xx" players now registered for the Main Event directly before the players club signup booth in the hallway. This was 4 days ago that I saw this. I commented to my friend how they were no where near the 8k projected.

its hard to say because there will be alot of people coming to town on thurs. to register. but its tempered by the online and preregistereds. 8500 is probably too high. my guess is it will be closer to 8000 than 7000 though.

Why would 11-handed suck? The only down-side I see is that it is crowded at the table. Everything else is a +.

I agree.

So whether the final count is 6300 or 9500, we all agree that they'll be locking up at least $10 million for first, right?

whats the great advantage of 11 handed?

i guess it wont be a huge issue because the blinds will be low.

the major downside is you are more likely to run into a big hand. i suppose the upside is that you may get an extra poor player at your table.

You're more likely to run into a big hand playing 9-handed than heads-up. Would you prefer to play the entire event heads-up? I wouldn't.

I don't mind 11-handed in theory because a) there are more donks at your table on average, and b) playing 11-handed requires some sort of adjustment, that most players will not even realize has to be made.

I completed my reg. this morning. The woman I talked to said that there were currently 7400+- registered, and they were capping it at 8200, with any runners after that designated as alternates. I asked if there was a possibility of 11 handed, and she had no idea.

Take the above with a grain of salt....lots of conflicting info going around, but it did come from someone working the registration desk.

That a pretty big down-side when you're seated beside the wrong kind people =P

Why is everything else a + ? I don't see anything that can compensate for seeing less hands vs a weak field due to being 11 handed that would make it better than being 9 or 10 handed.

This is from Harrah's press release last night - whether or not it is true remains to be seen

As of 11 p.m. Thursday night, close to 8,000 players had entered. According to a shift manager in the Amazon room, where this year’s WSOP events are taking place, the Rio has enough room for 8,800 people. There’s a good chance they’ll approach that. It seems like the line to the registration cage has been perpetually long all day, and there’s no sign of it ending.

I was just down there and one woman was actually turning people away, saying they were not taking anymore alternates but then I heard another guy telling people they were just shutting the registration down temporarily while they prepped the room (all the doors were locked) so I don't know if the people that work there even know what is going on right now.

The Main Event Has Arrived
The 2006 World Seris of Poker Main Event is now upon us!

There are officially at least 8,532 participants, and the word on the street is that there will be up to 500 alternates per day. We will keep you updated as this situation develops.

Wow!!!!

Way more than I was originally predicting.

Makes last year's 5,600 look like diddly-squat.

Really makes seeing those 2003 Chris Moneymaker re-runs look weird.
They had 849 players in that one I believe. And Lon and Nom make a couple of references to how INCREDIBLE it is that they had 800+ players in a single $10k event.

My how times have changed.
Stars sent around 1,500 players or so themselves this year.
