View Full Version : Jeff Madsen 3 FTs @ WSOP 1 Bracelet

pretty remarkable as he just turned 21 a month ago and is currently youngest ever to win a bracelet, UCSB has some serious poker chops, Richard Grijalva (gotMilk?) WPT championship FT.

I live near SB and have played with Madsen before at the local Indian casino 2-5 200 max game, he is a true loose aggressive, and he seems to be playing well Good Luck tommorow at the FT Jeff.

(sorry I'm bragging because I know the guy and we're thrilled for him here

Where does he have to place to surpass Chen for current POTY?

Kevmath
07-22-2006, 01:44 PM
First, that would put him about 100 points ahead of Chen.

First is 120 points
Multiplied by 3 for the 5k buyin
Multiplied by 4 (507 entrants, cap is 400)

Giving him 1440 for the win.

Congrats and goodluck to him on this accomplishment

Does anyone know the real POY standings? Cardplayer's don't really count for anything, and they are completely different from official WSOP POY. I remember Todd Witteles was 2005 POY acccording to Cardplayer.

Saying they don't count for anything is a bit much. It's pretty clear who's in the top 4 or 5 regardless of who does the rankings.

lol@cardplayer video. "My whole bankroll was in these six events". If I tried a stunt like this it would end in a comical fashion and a magnificent post on BBV. I thought it was pretty cool that someone that goes to the same school as me won a bracelet until I watched this video, now it's pretty lame because I think there's an excellent chance this guy sucks.

I guess what I meant was that there is no actual award AKAIF for leading the Cardplayer WSOP POY. The winner of the "official" (ESPN) PoY award got a new car the past few years I think, so it is a tangible prize worth winning.

I've played with Madsen at said Casino, he IS kind of a luckbox, on a Live at the Bike broadcast last year (he was underage)he must have bluffed a 1000 stack all in 6-7 times in a 2 hour broadcast. At Chumash he'd either have a big stack or be in 4 buy ins and leave

I mean do you even have to ask? Didn't he take QQ vs. AA all in at the FT where he won the bracelet?

All I can say is kudos to this kid. Calling him an amazing player would be an understatement. He really seems to know his stuff. I read that he has read every poker book known to man. Kinda makes me laugh at guys like Scott Fischman who manages to tell us in just about every single interview they have that he's never read a poker book. He is a very good player, but it just goes to show how fast the learning curve is if you study various styles and theories.

Jeff is representing UCSB very well. Two bracelets and a third is incredible with the size of these fields. I also graduated from UCSB and was a grinder at the Chumash 6-12 game for about 3 years. That is the reason why it took me over 5 years to graduate. Everyone here likes to bash on Chumash but it was a great training ground for moving into the medium limits and there were some very good players. There will be one more UCSB alumni to win a bracelet this year as I take down the ME. Ahhh i miss I.V.!

Phil Hellmuth at the age of 28 in 1993 won three bracelets and finished runner up - the three wins all came in hold'em while the runner up was in 2-7 draw. Hellmuth had already two bracelets and also in 93 Ted Forrest won three bracelets in three different games and was also only 28 years old.

if madsen holds finishes the WSOP in 2006 with 2 bracelets and 2 final tables, where does that put him? And still only being 21 years old?

boo5000
07-26-2006, 09:12 AM
I think that his success early in the WSOP is probably helping him to a great extent now. Just being aware that someone at your table has turned in such great preformances probably makes others very nervous, and also tentative to get in the mix with him. Especially in a hi-lo game, where everyone is drawing - he is probably getting off pretty easy by betting some marginal draws and getting folds.

Thats all just hypothetical though - I'm not in vegas watching. I would just assume that the more bracelets you win or FTs you make the farther you will go, without an increase in skill.

Jeff Madsen was all in on 5th street against Greg Dinkin. The players revealed:

Jeff Madsen 6s2s7s5s9c
Greg Dinkin AcAhQc10s3d

Madsen hit his spade flush on 7th street, along with an 8 low. Dinkin only improved to two pair (aces and queens), and Madsen scooped the pot, doubling up to 145K. Dinkin dropped down to 380K.

Madsen is now back into 4th with six remaining

Jeff Madsen and Patrick Poels have a one dollar bet that one of the three remaining players will be dealt a set on third street by the end of the tournament. Greg Dinkin has agreed to show his hand if he is the one who gets dealt the set. Dinkin decided to pass on this particular prop because he is already down one dollar to Jeff Madsen. Short stacked, Jeff Madsen gets it all-in against Patrick Poules on fourth street. When the cards are all finally dealt, Madsen's 9-9 are beaten by Poules' A-A. Neither player shows a low. That makes two firsts and two thirds so far for Jeff Madsen at the 2006 WSOP.

i doubt he just went to chumash to get to where he is now. their biggest game is the 2-5 NL game (300-500 buyin) on weekends. they very rarely spread the 6-12 limit game (4-8 is usually the biggest limit running) now and their tournaments are terrible. the 2-5 200 max game during weekdays, despite the [censored] structure, is pretty juicy because the game is full of degenerates. i hate the fact that chumash is the only casino near ucsb. SPREAD BIGGER LIMIT GAMES PLEASE.

i've played in the small 2-5 game with madsen a couple of times this past year or so. really limited experience with him because i rarely go to chumash and when there i usually play 4-8, probably like 50 hands. i don't remember much about him but i do distinctly remember how loose his pre-flop selection was (considering the short buy in structure, i wonder how he ever made those big stacks that he occasionally has).

but his record speaks for himself, much more than what a hazy memory can. congratulations to madsen. i guess there's going to be some noise when i go back to school this year.

I don't think so. Chumash is kept alive by retired people in the lompoc area. College students are definitely not on the top of their list. Second, most of the serious Santa Barbara and UCSB people I know play at the Bike and Commerce much more frequently than Chumash.

The 200 max hs been around for around two years, you must have just missed the change. The 500 game has been running consistently Friday's and Saturday's for about a year. 4/8 with a 1/2 kill is usually the biggest limit game, sometime 6/12 if the board fills. They used to have a Friday night 10/20 that was incredibly soft but I don't think there were enough players to keep the game alive.
