View Full Version : Suggestions for new WSOP events for next year

Some of the recent controversies have given me ideas for new events.

1. 11-handed NLHE and LMHE. They have short handed tournaments. Why not ling handed tournaments? All tables would play 11-handed throughout unless their were enough player to fill the tables. you would have to play 8-handed with 3 tables remaining, but when you get down to 22, they could go to two tables. Similarly, the final table would start with 11 players.

The 11-handed play would reward good players who played tight. Players would need to adjust hand values to the big table. Speculative hands would play well early. 11-handed play is very interesting and challenging. You just have to make the right adjustments.

2. Cards face up PLHE and PLO. This would eliminate problems with marked cards. All cards would be dealt face up. I think this game would play better pot limit than limit or no limit. There would be no bluffing with complete information. However, there would be interesting strategy. Mathematical players like Sklansky and Ferguson would probably do well at this.

F it, let's have a 22 handed NLHE tournament, dealer deals first at one table then, another, then the flop is put out and announced.

A speed poker tournament like is on Fox Sports could be a decent idea. A $25,000 triple draw event could be a nice idea for the pros.

A mixed omaha tournament between pot limit and omaha h/l.

H/L holdem.

The pro guys would love another big buy in triple draw type event. The could schedule it opposite a 2K limit hold em or omaha type event. your not going to get alot of unknowns entering a 5K triple draw. easier bracelet.

Talking seriously, mixed PLO high and LMO8 event doesn't cut it. If you have mixed events, they all have to be either limit or pot limit. You could have a mixed PLO and PLO8 event, or a mixed limit O/8 Stud/8 event.

Right now, everyone wants to play NLHE, so there probably won't be much expansion of mixed events, despite the interest created by the HORSE tournament.

Why is their no such thing as H/L holdem? You have razz and you have holdem. It only stands to reason, that the next step would be H/L. Can you see the amount of betting would take place in this? This could be pot limit or no limit.

Maybe they can "experiment" with this this year when there aren't enough dealers and tables for 8800 players?

6-handed shootout! They actually had one on the schedule for a few weeks before replacing it with a 6-handed ring event.

No more shootout events. A few more PLO events (including the rebuy, bring that back). Less $1500NLs as well, or at least up the buy-in.

In order of likelihood that Harrah's is actually going to add some of these events:

$10,000 Limit Hold'em
$50,000 Heads-up NLHE
[more PLO events in general]
Half LHE, Half Seven Card Stud
Half PLHE, Half PLO

1. Force top 100 from WSOP money list to play seven $1k LHE tourneys on successive days
2. $2.5K PLO M: there are bracelets for high and low, what about medium? stay til the river, if you don't have the best or worst pot, the hand with the closest to average value wins
3. Harrah's Mixed Game Special: game changes between Summertime Slot Tourney (each player hits slot machine as frequently as possible for ten minutes), 5-card draw, 2-card guts, and Mystery (random number of cards are dealt, players have blinders and can only see their cards, players bet, then are told what the game is and how many players are at the table).
4. WSOP Decathlon, includes 100yd bathroom dash, Poker Kitchen hot dog eating contest, etc. Tourney doesn't start until Chau Giang sleeps.

Seeing who is ACTUALLY the best at cutting fruits and vegetables with cards needs to be added and not just shown as the latest addition of the "Nuts."

I don't have any suggestions, but for some reason this paragraph seems really silly to me. Playing 11 handed is about as much fun as watching paint dray, and probably ups the luck factor and downs the skill factor..

It would reward better players who have greater patience and ability to observer the table when they are not playing.

I've really been working on this part of my game but there just isn't enough literature out there.

Replace the Kansas City Lowball event with a 5k Triple Draw 2-7 and A-5 mixed event. I think this is probably the most likely of all the proposals in this thread so far.

The funny (and sad) thing about this is, I rolled by there today and talked to someone (who's also on the board) who said that 20-25 chip runners and floor people had to get into the box to deal today's event.

Yet they won't hire additional experienced dealers to help them finish out the WSOP.

Maybe, you should be on Harrah's advisory panel
