View Full Version : (VERY LC) Is this a tell?

I just noticed a guy buy into the 2/4 table I'm at with $81 dollars. First thing that went through my head is that this guy must be a fish who is down to his last 81 dollars otherwise why buy in for such a weird amount. On the crypto sites in tournaments you can bet in less than dollar increments in tourneys early on for some reason and I often think that some guy who bets $46.59 must be a big fish too.
Do you think there is any basis for this thought?

I buy in for odd amounts all the time because if I switch tables, I buy in for the amount I had at the previous table. I do this as a way to track how much I have won or lost for the overall session. If he is doing this, then I don't think it is much of a tell.

PL,

I often times buy in for strange amounts. ie like right now I am playing 1-2 stud8 and I bought in for 31.60. Why? because that leaves me with XXX,XXX,X25$ in my account and I like to have even numbers in my account. btw, for all you stud8 guys, the 25-50 game on the ongame network looks like it wants to get going...like right now.

I'm going to start buying into $10/20 games for $387.46.

I'd say it probably is a tell. It won't be 100% reliable, but no tell is 100% reliable. I'd play against him as if he is a weak player until you know more about him.

Nice thought..
Well, after 10 hands, if this guy has seen 9 fourth streets out of 10, it's a very very accurate tell (if you even need that anymore).
At Crypto sites particularly, I often deposit a personally calculated "minimum" amount (for the bonuses), and while multitabling, sometimes I have to sit on a table with whatever I still have left on my account.
If I lose that, it's simply time to redeposit /images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's usually reliable. I love seeing someone buy into a 30-60 game with $491.
