And yet the rulers of the US try to stop online gambling because some people mishandle gambling and screw themselves up? I don't really mind if most casino games are stopped...BUT NOT POKER. Poker is clearly a game of skill(with some chance mixed in) and should be allowed and regulated and taxed. Poker stands alone above all other casino games in the fact that a skillful player WILL get ahead. The senate should really be aware of this.

Regardless, I believe that other forms of online gambling should be allowed as well. People have a right to gamble their money if they choose to.

One could argue that if the other games are definite losing propositions, that for the publics own protection they should be stopped. I can see that...like current regulations about harmful substances etc.But games of skill allow people to benefit by improving their own abilities...

Nobody forces anybody to gamble. It is a decision made by the individual. It is not thrust upon them. That argument sucks.

Societies often ban harmful things...whether that sucks is a matter of opinion...but they should definitely leave Poker and other games of skill alone.

They should leave all forms of gambling alone, but definetly poker for it is a game of skill with some chance mixed, but our politicians would have to do some work in order to do this. God forbid we ask our almighty powers that be to work like the rest of us.

The government protectionism arguments are unreal! Also goes to show you what some lobbying will do. During the House debate points of a bank robbery, one suicide were brought up, yet....

Cigarette smoking is the single most preventable cause of premature death in the United States. Each year, more than 400,000 Americans die from cigarette smoking.

Direct smoking-related medical costs total more than $75 billion each year.

Smokers cost the U.S. economy more than $150 billion annually in health care, lost work time, and low productivity.

You think cigarette smoking should be banned?

Can you imagine the argument you could make in favor of taking away people's right to drive cars? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

No I am not saying the government should ban cigarette smoking. The point I am making is the government is being penny wise and pound foolish here. The reasons they give for banning this are deplorable.
