View Full Version : So about this law what should I do?

I've been reading the posts about the legislations and they are all very enlightening, however (maybe I didn't read far enough) what should I do?

For now I am planning to withdraw most of my funds from these sites. I probably should withdraw most of it anyway since it just sits there. I am leaving enough money to play with until the legislation moves through the senate.

So as an online player, considering this is like a part time job (and a majority of my income while I'm in school), what should I do?

Should I not worry about it at all since the legislation is more closely aimed at the casinos who are off shore?
Or should I withdraw everything once the legislation passes the Senate (and I do understand that there is a possibility that it might not)?

Or should I assume that since the casinos previously ignored US laws that they will do the same and I will not be affected (I know that I shouldn't do this but I want to address this facet of the issue)?

Thanks alot,
S

Leave your money wherever. Don't worry about withdrawing anything until it passes the Senate (hopefully not) and is on the President's desk to sign.

In the meantine, join the PPA and call you Senators!! You have two.

A post topic entitled "what about this law should I do?" is going to cause more than a few heart attacks from the less informed people browsing...

Here's my concern if it passes the senate, eighty thousand players withdrawing money at once, No casino can cover that. It would be like people pulling money out of banks in the 30's.

I have to agree with this. All over these forums people are freaking out thinking it is now LAW. I say carry on with the all caps treatment if it helps educate people about the bicameral legislature. But yes, it can't hurt to call your senators.

Don't waste your time with Rick Santorum, he's a hardcore Righty that will be all over this bill.

From what I know about Arlen Specter (your other Senator), he is far more likely to be receptive.

Yeah, Santorum is a complete nut and (with the help of GOD) will not get re-elected. There are commercials all over PA bashing him. Hopefully Casey gets elected. I haven't seen poll numbers, but in general Santorum is not well liked from what I've seen. But yeah, trying to convince him not to vote for this is probably not going to work. It can't hurt to send over a letter, but he's not one I'd spend much time on. Specter, on the other hand, is. He's pretty level headed and not afraid to "go against the norm" on traditionally "republican" issues. Specter is retiring after the next election, however, but he'll be around 2 (or 4) more years.

All I'm getting (that's relevant) is that he probably will lose the election to Casey, which is good news.

Go to UrbanDictionary -- the term has a very nasty definition.

I apologize for calling it a law when it is clearly just a bill right now. I didn't even occur to me that it might confuse people luckily all the law scholars are here to calm everyone down.

Quote from pokerstars website

"PokerStars players' poker money and account balances are held in segregated accounts and not used for any of PokerStars' operational expenses. These segregated accounts are managed by the Royal Bank of Scotland plc, one of Europe's leading financial services groups. The arrangements ensure that PokerStars can at all times fulfill its monetary obligations toward its online poker players, and will provide further reassurance that players' funds are always secure with PokerStars.
