I keep seeing discussions and assertions that there are polls out there that show support or opposition for the banning of online gambling here in the US.

Please link me to the sources if you could be so kind. I am curious. What I have found so far are either unscientific online "polls" or real polls that extrapolate significantly different answers than people are indicating while answering the specific question (or the question is leading).

Example:
Example 1 (http://www.prwebdirect.com/releases/2006/3/prweb361495.htm)
- This site takes the question "do you think it is appropriate for the federal government to restrict what adults do on the Internet in the privacy of their own homes" and turns that specifically into an internet gambling assertion, which I believe could be misleading

Example 2 (http://discussions.wsj.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=wsjvoices&nav=messages&msg=3828 )
- Non-scientific online poll

This poll seems decent, and it looks like people are pretty much split. Also, a lot less people gamble on the internet than you probably think.

Wow... check out the disparity in Table 5. 47% believe it should not remain illegal, but 76% believe it isn't safe!

There are two polls on this page. While extremely early in the voting with less than 1000 votes on each, people are favoring either leaving it alone or regulating it.

To paraphrase one of my favorite sports figures of all time, online polls are about as useful as a poopy-flavored lollypop.

5% have played online poker for money. This is certainly much more than I thought! Holy [censored].
