Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but I was wondering how to go about getting a seat to watch some of the tv tapings at the WSOP? I didn't see anything at the wsop website or in a quick scan of this topic. Thanks,

Lee

Just walk in. This isn't the WWF or something (although some of those monkeys act like it).

Seeing as, for a while atleast, Rizen's child was able to be watching, is there an age limit on railbirds? I'm thinking about making the trip just to watch a bit, I'm 20

Being that it's the convention center, and that you're 20, I doubt anyone will hassle you. Just don't drink, and don't make a scene.

they let rizen's kid watch?
wow, didn't know that.

You are supposed to be 21...but I didn't see them carding anybody last year.

At the featured-table for the ESPN events...or to just rail-bird the other events...just show up.

Kind of crowded along the rail during the main-event of course. And you really can't see much anyway.

While I was playing in the main-event last year a 2+2'er I know was sitting in the bleachers watching the ESPN featured table and saw Jennifer Harman blow most of her stack in the opening level (full-house got rivered by a st-flush as I recall).

Not quite sure how it works for the final table at Binions though.
Curious if it's just first-come, first-seated. Or if they have some method for determining who gets a seat there.

yeah. she was very pissed at that one on the tv coverage b/c the guy pulled a horrible delay + speach, and then call on the river with the ST-F. I'm guessing she said a lot of bad words that they didn't show on TV.

my 'reporter on the scene' said she just got up and stormed off for a bit even though she still had chips left.

I don't think he caught the slow-rollish aspect of his behavior though (they were kind of mumbling through part of it on TV so I could see how he wouldn't be able to know everything that was happening from the bleachers). He just saw that she was upset over taking such a bad beat. He didn't hear any additional words.

When Johnny Chan got back to our table (my friend told me on the phone during the break) I told him what I had heard about Harman taking a ridiculous beat and storming off even though she still had a few chips left and he said something like, "Yeah. I'd be pretty upset at a beat like that too."

No final table at Binions this year MicroBob, at least not for the WSOP anyway!

okay. wasn't sure about that.

interesting that they aren't moving it over there again like they did last year.

still doesn't quite answer Q's about how difficult it might be to sit at the final-table.

I swung by the Rio last year when there were 60 or so players left and people were standing 5-6 deep, and on chairs, etc.
There was no point. You couldn't see anything.

My recommendation would be to add a few more taller bleachers around some of the other remaining tables.

They may be doing that this year for all I know since they have added other improvements (portable restrooms, staggered breaks, etc).

While my memory of the details is a little murky, Harrah's which owns the Rio, bought Binion's and the rights to the WSOP a few years ago. They kept the WSOP but sold Binion's casino. As part of the deal, Harrah's ran the Horseshoe for a while, and held the finals of the ME at the Horseshoe last year for the last time as part of the transition. I believe that Harrah's also kept ownership of the Horseshoe name, and that the old place downtown is now just called Binion's.

It just wouldn't be the same anyway without the Horseshoe name and all the Binion family high drama. Ah, the good old days.

It would be interesting to see how Binion's would have handled the WSOP if Becky Behnen didn't run the Horseshoe into the ground.

Yes. They still own the name 'Horseshoe'.

their 'Horseshoe' casino in Tunica is still generally considered to be the best in the region (there are 9 casinos in Tunica, 5 of them have poker-rooms) even though it is now operated by Harrah's.

they even still have Jack Binion appearing in the TV commercials. He's really more of a spokes-person for Horseshoe now I believe. But part of their deal included his involvement in representing the Horseshoe.
So it is still impossible to go very long on Memphis television without seeing him in an ad.

I believe they kept the Horseshoe name in Shreveport as well. And I thought they also had a Horseshoe somewhere in Illinois that is under the Harrah's umbrella now too.

but clearly the one in Tunica is their jewel.

Maybe some of the railtrout from Rizen's FT could come in and answer this. Maybe you need to be an invited guest or VIP like Filmaff or someone like that?

1) You don't need a ticket, just show up.

2) Somehow, Rizen's wife got the stroller all the way to the viewing area before gettign kicked out. You must be 21 to be in the area but they didn't ID anyone and we were with some youngish looking people.

3) Rizen owns. OBV

No, I don't think so.

I am sure that I read somewhere that they have a built a mini "stadium" TV table with bleachers at the Rio, for the Main Event.
