View Full Version : Price gouging at WSOP?

I read in a blog that cocktail servers won't serve people that aren't playing in a game. If want a beer and aren't in a game it costs $6.50 at the bar. Water costs $4 a bottle. Can anybody at the WSOP give some other prices for food items?

That and the 9% juice with the smaller buyin events, and Harrah's is turning the WSOP into the Disneyworld of poker.

(source was a poker dealer's blog that had adverts. You can google "Table Tango blog" to find it.)

It is only price gouging if alternatives are not easily available.

1) Go to the slots, stand in front of one with a player's card hanging from one of those gay little leashes.

2) Order a beer from a cocktail waitress

3) TIP

4) Repeat until drunk

5) Tilt off all the money you saved to the chubby white guy with a redneck accent wearing Poker.com gear

And even works in upscale casinos like the Bellagio. My wife and I will sit at the 1cent slots playing "Guess who's the hooker" and the cocktails waitresses will come serve you drinks (for the standard tip).

From my experience, this isn't true at all. My friends sat with me at the poker table at Bellagio and Caesar's, and as long as I tipped, the waitresses would bring drinks for everyone.

What is the standard tip for a drink?

And if I'm on the subject, I'd love to hear a quick course in American tipping (and I won't even go into how dumb that is and how it all revolves on the pathetic conditions given to workers).

What do you tip a dealer after you win a cash game hand? What do you tip a Taxi driver (why the [censored] do you tip taxi drivers?!)? Who else am I expected to tip in a regular vegas day?

$1 is solid for drinks and winning a poker pot.

Taxis drivers get 10-20%.

Vegas is probably the tipping capital of the world. A server in a restaurant should be tipped 15% and up (more for extra service or extra good service). The valet parker should be tipped. There is a tip jar on the counter of every bar and coffeeshop (I ignore these but I am a cheap old woman). The chambermaid should be tipped. The bellman should be tipped. If you get a haircut or other personal grooming services, the provider should be tipped. There are plenty of threads on tipping strippers and negotiating with other sex workers. Luggage handlers at the airport should be tipped. The guy at the airport who does curbside checkin expects a tip, but the folks at the ticket counter who do the same thing don't get tipped (go figure!). Basically just about anyone who does anything for you in Vegas should be tipped. If you fail to tip someone who is expecting a gratuity or if your tip is deemed too small, you will be made to understand your lapse.

Tipping in Vegas:

Poker tournaments: 0 (a tip was taken out already)
Tip Jars: lame
Valet: $1-$5, I dunno. I use the self park
I think you should give taxi drivers a convenient amount, usually I go up to the next dollar + 1 (i.e. $12.50 - 14, unless they were surly then 13)

Strippers will figure out a way to get your money anyway so don't worry aobut tipping them, anyone else you should only tip if you want them do something substantial for you right then.

Dynasty is 100% correct. The casinos would rather you drink while you play a table game whatever it maybe.

if the drinks are free, consider tipping a higher percentage than that. maybe 30% at least.

I was in Vegas for spring break this year with three friends, only one of which played poker. If you are trying to get drinks fast, give a big tip the first drink. I usually give $5, and ask politely if she would come back every 15 minutes. Then I just tip the standard $1 per drink after that. That worked perfectly for all of us for predrinking for the clubs. They never had any problem bringing drinks for people not playing. You can also order double shots in your drinks if you are in a hurry.
