Simple enough question- how many people do you think will play in the $50K HORSE event?

I'll give 70 as my over/under.

How?

I think how big the field is was put into perspective for me when Shawn Sheikhan was interviewed by All-In Magazine, and said he'd play the 50K event if he is running well. Here we are talking about a guy who loves to play the games involved in HORSE, regularly plays 300-600 and 400-800, loves the publicity in poker, and still isn't positive about playing in the event.

How the hell are 200 people going to enter the event?

You gotta keep in mind there are tons of donks who will play satellites to a 10K NLHE tournament, but how many people are going to play $5,000 satellites?

This is the one I have my eye on.
The Rolls Royce of card play.
Expect only great play.

I think thats an easy over. I think if Bodog had this bet up they would have it as over/under 100.

By the way....if its around 100, and 9 people are paid, the payouts will look like this:

1st: $1,800,000
2nd: $1,000,000
3rd: $600,000
4th: $400,000
5th: $350,000
6th: $300,000
7th: $250,000
8th: $200,000
9th: $150,000

I thought about this after reading a couple article with pros thinking "50 to 60" and I myself think it'll actually be about 125-150.

Players with online deals w/stipends can clear the 50k easy. Other pros will get backers. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if a 2006 bracelet winner or three, with fresh winnings in hand, will take the one-time shot (I'll be honest, I'd drop the $50k in a heartbeat and take the shot myself).

This is far different from the $5k 2-7 w/rebuys - I have a feeling all the interviewed pros are going off the number that usually gets (40-50 range), and I feel they'd be dead-wrong.

In a previous thread in the WPT-forum Greg Raymer said that he as estimating 150. I believe he also said that others were agreeing with him on that estimate but I can't remember for sure.

On WSEX they have odds listed for the $50k event including a lot of players who I think may be unlikely to play.
David Sklansky was listed at 100-1 to win the event...and Mason Malmuth reported that David is somewhat interested in playing this event.

Just because Sheikan isn't as interested doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of others who are.

Lots of these guys can get staked anyway and swap shares with each other.
