View Full Version : 101% rakeback can't last long

Since I started trying to clear other sites' bonuses when there was no bonus to clear at party, I've noticed my existence is losing money for the poker rooms.

In the last couple of months I've earned $1335 in bonuses and rakeback, but according to PT, my MGR for the same period was $1320 - that's about 101% rakeback

I calculated my MGR by dividing the total rake in the 'game notes' tab and dividing it by the average players per hand (APH). The rake taken from pots I've won is less than my MGR, even though I ran around 2BB/100 over this period - I assume that's because I play tighter.

So - how long can the poker rooms sustain these bonuses? I'm not exactly a 'valued' customer if they're not making money from me - even though I play poker regularly.

I can imagine that a lot of rooms will go bust and the others' bonuses will have to dry up.

Any thoughts?

Forever...

Not all people are greedy bonus eating bastards like you and me. To support my claim of neverending bonus bonanza I'v found this little snippet of text on some PartyGaming site (googled online poker revenue):

Even Party has cut back on the bonuses they give. I basically stopped playing at Party for about 2 years(I played at skins with a rake rebate), the bonuses for me were the same, until about the middle of last year. Now the bonuses generally suck and the games suck..... /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/blush.gif /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The other thing is that larger player bases encourage exponential growth. The more players that a site has, the more players will want to play there because games will be generally softer and more readily available. If a site loses a small amount to people like you and me who get more than 100% rakeback from time to time, but more players who are giving them close to 100% rake, then they have are +EV for losing a small amount on us. I've been costing Absolute money for about a year and a half now. A lot of other players are too, and I don't hear them complaining.

And the site also made money off of the 'float' on your deposit. The sites earn interest on all the money deposited. Party Poker even used to pay players interest on the money they had deposited at their site in the good old days believe it or not.

I'm not sure if a weeks interest on $500 covers 101% RB and NT fees.

In the short amount of time it takes to deposit and clear a bonus, the transaction charges probably far exceed any interest they make off of it.

contrary to what has been stated inaccurately for years, sites do NOT make shitola on a float. transaction costs far exceed any pennies made in interest.

You have to admit bonuses are drying up, most cryptos switching to #1 rake points, Stars uping thier rake rquirements, Party reloads 10x and higher. Signup's like Betfred, Nordic and other Primas going to hello. All in the last several months.

Since they went to .50 rake for bonuses there are only rare games where bonus > rake.

You make a valid point, but I'm also recieving rakeback. I'm playing $1 and on occasion $2 NL. At that level the bonus and rakeback comes out to about 115% of the rake. If I move up and play $2 NL (which I will probably do within a month) on a regular basis that will change.

I was going to say, with my RB and bonus, I'm running about 60% of MGR. It's highly game dependant. Only games with average pots around 12-15$ will tend to be in the 100% zone.
