What is my best option for hotel from July 27-Aug9. I am looking to spend 2000$ or less. Obviously close to the rio is good, but a hike isnt too big of a deal. Gold Coast is one option. Is there anyway to get reduced rates from the ones posted online for a longer stay like this? Besides poker rate that is /images/graemlins/wink.gif Thanks in advance.

My wife and I love staying at the Orleans, which is quite close. The rooms are very spacious and well priced. Also the Orleans has one of the best poker rooms in Vegas.

Just find a cheaper hotel (holiday inn, super8, etc) and use a rental car. The freedom of having a car will be nice, plus it will nearly be the same price you plan to spend on cabs just to get around town.

The WSOP website at www.worldseriesofpoker.com (http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com) offers direct links to the Harrah's hotels; they are offering reduced hotel rates for WSOP players.

I personally wanted to stay somewhere other than Rio since I figure that place will be a zoo (this is my first WSOP so I'm just guessing). I too wanted a reasonable price. So I picked Bally's because it is on the strip, the rooms are above average (recently remodeled), it is relatively close to the Rio (a quick cab ride away, don't want the hassle of a rental car) and it is also across the street from the Bellagio (where I can play if I have time to kill).

BTW, once I got to the Bally's website I entered my Total Rewards # and Pin # and deleted the special WSOP code and got even better rates - I'm paying $70 a night for weekday nights and $100 for weekend nights. Might be worth trying that to see if you can get lower rates. My two cents...

I suggest an extended-stay suite hotel away from the strip such as Extended Stay America or Emerald Suites, where you can rent by the week.

Get a rental car if you are flying in. Cabs are way too expensive.

The WSoP rates are generally higher than you can get directly from the Harrah's website (http://www.harrahs.com/our_casinos/las/deals/index.html) or somewhere like TravelWorm (http://www.travelworm.com/).

I'm staying at The Orleans (http://www.orleanscasino.com). It has a shuttle to the Gold Coast, which is next door to the Rio (though it's still maybe 1/3 of a mile to get to the WSoP). However, it's inexpensive and has a poker room with plenty of tables and tournaments. They also have a room rate guarantee, so i was able to combine the best prices from TravelWorm and those on their own website to get a good deal. $760 for 12 nights, 6/28 thru 7/10.

I stayed there for last year's WSoP and liked it enough to go back. I chose it over the Gold Coast because the poker room is 5x bigger. Of course, if you wind up lasting until the final table of the Main Event, that won't be an issue.

it never hurts to check hotwire.com, they often have ridiculously good rates but you'll only know a general location and quality of the hotel.

You can see what people are getting through Hotwire and Priceline at www.betterbidding.com (http://www.betterbidding.com) - if you book through Hotwire or Priceline, use their affiliate links (won't cost you any more) to help support that site. I've used it before and they give you step by step advice on how to game Priceline.

I'm staying at Bellagio cause hell, i got 2500 from Bodog to blow, why not, But only for 3 days, The other 5 days i'm staying at The Renisance Marriot out by the convention center, its like 89$ a night and you definately don't have to worry about a crappy place like gold coast or some of the other cheap hotels.

You could have gotten a 1-bedroom "apartment" suite at Emerald Suites - Cameron across the street from the Orleans for $350 a week, or $700 over 2 weeks. That's about 10% cheaper than The Orleans. You also get to use a full kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven), which is something The Orleans doesn't offer.

Generally, the smaller properties off The Strip, especially the ones WITHOUT gaming licenses, offer better deals than the gaming properties where you have to put up with all the riff raff.

Check the Tuscany Suites - I got a $65 rate in July.
To far to walk to the Rio but a direct bus route (202)

I can't imagine the money saved at Tuscany is worth the time lost on the bus if the bus is your plan.

That is a very good idea, but for me i think The Orleans is better.

The Orleans is giving me a mini-fridge free of charge for medical reasons. Having the rest of the full kitchen would be nice, but staying at the Emerald Suites would require renting a car. A car would make getting to The Rio, The Strip, and everywhere else much easier. Balancing the ability to cook for myself with renting a car, i think the costs are about even.

The convenience of being able to quickly go from my room to a poker room without leaving air conditioning has great appeal for me. However, although the Orleans usually has plenty of tables going without much wait, but with The Orleans Open going on, i may not be so lucky.

I thought I saw an ad in Cardplayer saying The Orleans/Gold Coast were having special WSOP room rates. Something like $59 for weeknight and $99 for weekends.

I stayed at the Extended Stay America (ESA) on Valley View last year, before the remodeling and before the property jacked up the rates for this year.

Because the rates got jacked up at the ESA-Valley View, I chose Emerald Suites-Cameron this year even though it is 3 miles away from the Rio, across the street from The Orleans.

The suites at ESA-Valley View are basically a glorified motel units with kitchenettes. ESA only provides maid service EVERY OTHER DAY.

I like Emerald Suites - Cameron better, as the suites at that particular property features apartment-like units rather than glorified motel rooms.

I could not find a rate for the Emerald Suites lower than $90/night for a two week stay. Where do you see $350/week?

A guy I know can get me $59/night at the Golden Nugget. Is this a decent place? I am very unfamiliar with Vegas.

I am coming out by myself and want to get a decent place with free internet access. I would like to stay under $75/night if possible. Am I dreaming or does anyone have any suggeztions?

Thanks!

Where would be the best place to stay for me?

1. I want someplace relatively close to the rio
2. A really want a totally gorgeous beautiful hotel/pool area/rooms/etc
3. I'd like a place with a relatively younger crowd.
4. Money is no object but I don't really wanna spend more than like $300/night

Thanks,

Or should I just take the room at the MGM that Party is supplying me?

We're staying at the incredibly cheap Gold Coast. Yeah the rooms kinda suck and the bathroom is tinier than a closet, but I hardly spend time in the room anyhow. Their buffet is decent but the diner food is crap.

The Gold Coast is closer to the Rio than the rio parking lot is to the Amazon room in the rio.

$35 per weeknight and $75 per weekend night.

Take the MGM, the only other places will run atleast 300 a night and you only get 5 min closer assuming you take a cab. The MGM is nice, south end of the strip, but has an amazing pool. MGM also has Studio 51 a very young crowd Club. You wouldn't regret staying there IMHO.

The rooms at the Nugget are very nice. The pool is closed this summer but that may not be an issue for you. I'm staying downtown and getting a rental car. The drive to the Rio is a breeze using the freeway.

Lots of options (meals, poker, other) within easy walking distance once downtown

It's right across the street. That's a relative term when it comes to Vegas though. It will take you 3-4 minutes to walk.

It's basically on the opposite corner of the intersection of W. Flamingo Rd. & S. Valley View Blvd. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=rio+suites,+las+vegas,+nv&ie=UTF8 &ll=36.117796,-115.189376&spn=0.007479,0.013282&t=h&om=1)

That said, it's almost a mile walk from The Palms to the Rio Convention Center where the WSoP is being held. If you click on this map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=rio+suites,+las+vegas,+nv&ie=UTF8 &ll=36.117796,-115.189376&spn=0.007479,0.013282&t=h&om=1), the Palms is in the bottom left corner. The Rio Convention Center is in the northern part of the Rio in the NE corner of the map.

The Gold Coast is the hotel on the NW corner of W. Flamingo Rd. & S. Valley View Blvd.

I am staying at the Gold Coast for much of this time. It is cheap with frequent shuttles to the Barbary Coast for easy strip access without having to rent a car. No kitchenettes, etc though. Also, the bathrooms are smaller than the Vegas norm.

I booked the week of June 26-July 3 for $350/week at Emerald Suites - Cameron.

For the main event, however, the rates will be jacked up.

I will be renting by the night during the main event, likely at a property well off the strip. There is no reason for me to book ahead since I will be checking in and out each day and I am bringing my own car. If push comes to shove, I will head down the road to Jean (25 miles south) or even Stateline/Primm (40 miles south) where rooms are available for less than $70 on weekends and $40 on weeknights.

Golden Nugget is downtown, about 5 miles from the Rio. Not worth the hassle in my opinion.

olivert

Also keep in mind as players bust out of the WSOP Main Event, players will cancel their room reservations as they go home early.

I wouldn't sweat not being able to book a room for a 2-week block ahead of time if you are coming by car.

If you are flying in and you want the peace of mind of having a confirmed hotel room for 2 weeks, then of course your situation is different from mine.

All the Harrah's properties have reduced rates for people in the Main Event, and they'll be running shuttles every 20 minutes.

Harrah's and the Flamingo are very close by, and right on the Strip.

I just made reservations at the Rio. They tell me I can cancel my further stay at any time for no charge. So, it seemed to me that I should make reservations till August 10, and just cancel if I get knocked out early. This strategy is opposite of my plane strategy to book my flight to leave early and try to push it back.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Also, is the rio going to be ridiculously crowded or what? My girlfriend wants to use the pool. Will it be too crowded, or usable?

Unexpected situation for me. I booked the Rio for June 26-29th for the WSOP discount of $109. I got there Monday night, and they offered me a free room at their new South Coast property (just for Monday night), $80 cash for taxis, and $50 voucher towards my two nights back at the Rio (or any Rio restaurants, etc). South Coast is a long way from the strip ($20 cab ride), but I just wanted a meal and a bed in a clean, safe hotel, so I took the deal.

South Coast was actually alright. Seemed as large as Rio. The room was fine. The Oyster Bar was very good, and reasonable. They have a 24 hour bowling alley, which would have been nice if I had any energy at all. Violent Femmes will be playing there in early July. And if your Mom is coming, they have a huge bingo parlor.

I think there normal rates are $55 for weeknights. But I don't know if I'd recommend this place. Certainly not if you've never been to Vegas and want to experience the Strip. Cab fare would eliminate the cost advantage (though maybe they have a shuttle service?).

I appreciated the savings, but was happy to be back in the Rio last night. The rooms are very nice, and it's great convenience to run back and forth between my hotel room and the poker action.

Don't avoid the Rio if you're expecting it to be a "madhouse". It's not any busier than any major Vegas Casino on the weekend. But it is kinda cool to be standing behind Andy Black at check-in, or Freddy Deeb at the seafood restaurant queue, or Layne Flack at Starbucks...

WTF???

Tried to book the Flamingo from the 11th July to the 11th of August. Apparently its illegal to stay in a hotel for more than a month, so why hold a 6 week festival? Im now going to arrive in on the night of the 11th and get into a cash game with all my luggage for 9 or 10 hours.
