View Full Version : Variance up close and personal

I cleared the sign up bonus last night at Cherry Casino. It is the buy $222 and get $111 deal. I flat bet blackjack $3 a hand, and I went on a terrible run at the beginning. I ran my balance down to ~ $175. I then hit a nice up swing, and by the end, I cashed out at $340.

We should all know variance is a fact of life when whoring, but I got to see it first hand last night over the course of about 1400 hands. The urge to step up my bets and get even was very strong when I was getting killed, but somewhow, I managed to resist the urge.

I thought this might be helpful for those who are new to whoring, and are tempted to go on tilt and do something drastic when things go badly.

Good luck all,

Fitz

If you dont like variance, I would stay away from pontoon. I have dropped $1k in literally 15 minutes at $25 a hand doing the GP reloads. Lower HA, more Tilt factor.

The good thing about tilting in blackjack is that its not anymore -EV than normal, as long as you're always playing with a bonus. More variance yes, but hey you can mathematically prove to someone that you weren't tilting because the numbers are in your favor :P

pontoon is still the only game that has made me tilt. I have also lost $1,000+ in a session flat betting $20. I took alot longer than 15 minutes though cuz I had to get away from the computer after everyhand and take a breather before I punched my computer. There is only so much punishment one man can take like when the dealer tied my 20 or 21 for the 5th straight hand to go along with the million 5 card tricks he pulls.

Amazingly, I still prefer pontoon to blackjack.

Oddly enough I also started betting $40 a hand on Cherry Casino and proceeded to go bust quickly. Rigged? Makes you wonder with $333 betting $40 a hand and losing 2 doubledowns back to back. I am calling shananigans!!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sucks that this was the 2nd casino I have donkeyfied by tilt betting. Can't be too upset with having only busted 2 of now 21 casino signup bonuses and my first Intercasino monthly. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Cleared Cherry Casino's bonus 17 times? Or you are saying your casino whoring totals are 17 for 33 on overall cashs?

If you upped your bets for that upswing, you could have cashed out much more
