Hi everyone,

Just wondering as I'm starting to be a little better and also more involved in my learning of poker...what's the best way to build up a bankroll for poker?

Is this page still current enough to follow? http://www.bonuswhores.com/bonus-whoring-101.php#bet365

Just wondering if anything changed since the whole PartyPoker going seperate from the skins and all that...

I have around $50-100 which I could start with right now...I've been playing on Paradise exclusively micro limits which I can usually beat quite easily ...

There are elements of that page that are still useful. But a word of advice: play the bonuses that are listed as "easy to moderately easy to clear." The more difficult bonuses to clear can take you an awfully long time. For me, life did some damage to my bankroll and I did a little bonuswhoring to help build it back up. But ultimately, once I got my bankroll back up to my proper # of buyins for my level of SnG's, it was much easier to continue growth by playing my game than by bonuswhoring. However, if your game is still developing, bonuswhoring can be a good way to gain table experience, play hands that are worth posting, and build your roll at the same time even if you only play break-even poker.

This is WAY outdated.

Anyone with a small bankroll such as yours would probably do well at some of the Boss Media sites IF they still have the low limit tables. I haven't played there in a while so this too may be outdated. But the Boss Media sites were giving $100 bonus for a $20 deposit. You had to play "contributed" hands but the games were so loose and the limits so low it was hard to lose.

Thank you both for your replies, I didn't know of all the other, less popular sites. I'll start with 'em soon.

Boss media sites 1000 contributed hands takes a hell of a long time to clear. After first 250 you get 25 dollars though but you also have to play at 1/2 which probably wouldnt be recommended for smaller bankrolls.

I think the crypto bonuses are good as you can clear them at lower limits.

Pardon my ignorange here...

Would the difference between a contributed hand and a raked hand be that I don't have to bet any money in a raked hand? It's just if I'm dealt cards I'm part of the hand right?

If so yeah 1000 contributed seems like quite a bit...I'll do some more searching on the forums and come up with something which seems alright I guess...probably a mix of the two.

Ok, this seems to easy...

InterPoker and LittlewoodsPoker both has a Casino side...now if I got that right I could just deposit on the Casino side, clear it playing BJ...withdraw to ECashDirect and redeposit on the poker side to get the other bonus?

The 1/2 part is not true. I finished Imperial poker (listed at bonus whores) last night, played nothing but .25/.50 7 card stud(every hand is contributed with the ante) and .05/.10 No limit holdem.

Homer's guide was the shiznit for it's time, but it's very much ourtdated, and several better bankroll building guides were made since.

This one (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Board=micro&Number=3740788& fpart=&PHPSESSID=) is, as far as I know, the current gold standard.

If you can scrape together $100, the Boss sites that give you $100 for 500 raked hands are pretty easy to clear. I've cleared both Sporting Bet (very loose) and Casino.net in the last few weeks playing an hour or so in the evenings. Starting with $100 I'm up to $430.

[/ QUOTE ]Sportingbet is no longer showing a deposit bonus on their website. Casino.net is $30 after 100 hands and $70 after another 400 hands. Sportingodds.com is also 500 hands.

Evian,

Im going to suggest Ultimate Bet to you.

Why? because if you play 0.05/0.1 which is reasonable given your bankroll you can learn and clear bonuses each and every month. Very few if any sites out there will let you clear a bonus at this limit.

dont try and work out how fast the UB points accumulate based on their information on their webpage...I did and its not very accurate (hint: in my experience a pot does NOT need to get to $1 to get 0.1UB....even much smaller pots will get you that 0.1)

Im my experience >10000 hands youll get 0.1 UB points on at least 80% of the FR tables at 0.05/0.l. That equates to 8c an orbit at 10 player tables. Not much in $ terms but it does mean you are making 8BB/100 hands. You can make this even better by starting a new table and watching people school around you...just dont sit out too long or else you get booted from the table and lose you 25% extra potential.

I increased my BR from $80 to $220 in 3 months like this playing abotu 4000 hands a month. Basically any reasonable player has nil chance of going broke and you can learn whilst you play. yes UB rakes the pot at this level but the bonus you get is much more than rake so you come out ahead.

hope that helps...if you want to play higher this advice is less useful since the higher you go at UB the worse the clearing rate seems to get.

Battler

edit: Im risk adverse in terms of going broke..if you arent and want to build much quicker then this advice aint for you.

Evian,

This might not be what you are looking for, but a good way to build up a poker bankroll is by bonus-whoring casino sites. Check out this guide:

http://suckout.blogspot.com/2004/12/beginners-guide-to-casino-bonuses.html

It requires a lot of monotonuous disciplined blackjack playing, but as long as you follow the instructions exactly, you should easily walk away with $1000 from your initial $100.

The guide is really well written. I stumbled across it a few months ago and decided to give it a go. I only made about $700 from it, but that's only because I got stupid and started betting more than I was supposed to.

Give it a read. It's basically free money with a lot less risk than poker, and will give you a much better bankroll to work with.

UB sounds like a good idea to me, as your risk of ruin would be miniscule with both a bonus and a tiny, tiny amount of rakeback.

By the time you cleared $100 in bonus, you'd probably have a much greater understanding of the way online cash games play out.

Bonus clearing at UB at $1-2 and below is painfully slow. I'm an avid bonus whore and I have never managed to clear more than $100 before getting frustrated with the low clear rake and moving on to a better bonus. I've played between 25NL and 200NL there.
