I was thinking that the 6 and 8 place bet that pays 7:6 was a sucker bet and it's much better to play the come and back it with max odds. Well I got to looking and if you're on the 6 or8 and are wagering 10 dollars with 50 dollar odds. You're risking 60 dollars and getting paid 70 when you win. 7:6, or you can simply place 60 out there and win the same thing. Am I missing something?

That's what a place bet is. On the 4,5,9,10 it's a wager of 1 unit flat with 4 odds -- on the 6 & 8 it's 1 unit flat with 5 odds. What you miss when making a place bet is the come roll, where you have a 2:1 advantage on a decision.

Thanks sheet wise. I was about to abandon my strategy and start placing bets. So the actual bet itself once on the 6 or 8 is the same odds, however prior to it being ON the 6 or 8 the chances to win are better.

odds are pretty good u may get a six/ or eight before seven out. Try placing 6/8 for $24 each or $12 however much u are comfortable with...then cut bet in half after first hit. you then have all your bets paid for ,and are guaranteed a profit.
Example. $24 on 6 $24 on 8
shooter rolls a 6, u get paid $28 and cut your bets to $12 on each. Now u have $4 in profit with two bets still in play. Next hit is pure profit of $14. You can also start to press.
That is a passive method I like, but as with all options it can Easily fail. I like to throw some dont come bets in too.
