View Full Version : The flood of stud/8 posts (LC... well sort of)

I have nothing against stud/8, in fact I enjoy playing it very much. But as of late, there has been a myriad of stud/8 posts. Some people post 10 hands in different posts and it makes the forum look really bad.

Now maybe I'm just biased, but does anyone else find the lack of Stud hi hands and the influx of stud/8 hands annoying? I'm gonna try posting some more stud hi hands, but when someone posts 10 stud/8 hands in a row its hard for people to see my stud hi posts on the 2nd page....

I agree, I like all of the stud8 posts bc thats what I play, but there isnt a need to post ten hands at a time. I think posting 2-3 a day gets better responses as well. Just my thoughts.

Your title includes "LC." What does that mean, last chance?

LC = low (poker) content

I agree, frappe. I was gonna make a smart ass post yesterday, but showed some restraint.

I think Aaron W. would probably be better served posting fewer hands. He would likely receive better feedback, and he would get better quality that he'd be able to focus on, rather than 10 different hands.

I agree completely. He should categorize a few hands and post them - such as wired pair / split pair hands, three-low draws, and when to apply aggression. No offense, Aaron, but it's hard to follow up on the flood of Stud 8/b posts from the same person.

A separate forum is needed for stud/8, spearate from stud high. It would help alleviate all the clutter.

A Separate Forum. All who agree say Yey.

Yey.

I usually only do 3-4 at a time and try to space my questions out with a couple days' gap in between. I got carried away this week. I'm sort of at the point where almost everything seems very basic (against the very poor competition at $.25/.50) and I'm just checking to make sure I'm not making any more egregious errors. When I move up, I'm going to have to slow way down again in order to move my thinking up to the next level.

I actually sent a PM to Andy B. asking him to make 2 forums for Stud, and now I'm reading this today. It's like you read my mind. I agree about Aaron, way too many hands. I see that most people put 2 or 3 hands in one post, that makes more sense to me.

Andy B

Never got the PM.

I have it on good authority that the powers that be will not split this forum. I play both games, and I like having a single forum that I can go to, basically forsaking the rest of 2+2. So long as everyone puts high-only or stud/8 in the title of their posts, I don't see a problem.

I'll be responding to some threads today. Even before reading this thread I decided that I was going to save Aaron's for last because I think posting more than, say, three hands in a day is pretty obnoxious. This means that there is a decent chance that I won't reply to any of them at all.

I couldnt find one of the posts I thought I made yesterday, so I probably brain farted when I was sending them. Well, the gist of it was to ask to seperate them. I don't see why the authority would say no to this. Omaha is split into different sections. Hold'em is split into 9 different sections. They are 2 very different games. Seems only right. The biggest reasons I'd like to see it changed is some people dont mark it as hi/lo in the heading and I'm halfway thru the article before realizing it. Pull some strings Andy, make it happen.

Andy B

When I first started posting here in the late 1990s, there was one forum. Eventually, they started splitting 2+2 into different forums. At first, it was only a few, but now we're up to something like forty, I think. There may be nine different hold'em forums, but I'm guessing that every single one of them gets more traffic on a given day than this forum does. Stud and stud/8 are very different games, but they do have a lot of the same player base. Some hold'em players may cross over between mid and high stakes, or between limit and no-limit, but there probably aren't going to be more than two or three of those nine forums that interest a particular individual.

There aren't any strings for me to pull. The powers that be aren't looking for reasons to add new forums. They have more pressing needs, and I don't think that we'll ever see enough growth here that they'll see a need for a split. It wasn't that long ago that stud and stud/8 were lumped in with "Other Poker."

I don't think we need another forum. I just think the stud high players need to post more hands, and aaron w. needs to post a few less.

Frappe, roland, lstream.. get to it.

I'm on hiatus until saturday.

I’ll cast a nay vote. It’s convenient to have all of the stud posts in one forum. Also, most posters do a good enough job of selecting a title.

If Aaron would’ve posted one or two hands, or two or three hands in one message, I’d have read them. As it was, I was overwhelmed. Rather than make a choice as to which one to read, I didn’t read any of them.

Likewise, if I were to open a message with four hands, I’d immediately close it. It’d require more time than I’m willing to devote to one post.

I think a good policy is that people should strive to have something like a 10 to 1 post replied to/thread started ratio.

That being said I'm not sure what harm post onslaught's like Aaron's really cause. Just ignore them if you don't feel like reading them?

Personally, I’d much rather see one hand per post. The follow-ups are so much easier to understand. You don’t have to keep track of what hand people are discussing.

One hand per post is the norm. I think Andy B says if one hand sets up another, that’s cool too.

My posts may suck but…

"play some hands bitch."

Mike, I actually played some hands the other day that I'll post.. I dropped a grand in like 5 minutes.. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

My hiatus this time isn't due to the fact that I suck/can't handle swings.. I just don't have time for "Party"ing.

When I come back, I will be large and in charge!!

Are you as excited about party putting up a 15/30 game as I am? I might never have to work again.. LOL.

And, BESET, its not that we can't ignore posts, its just that they take up the whole first page, and it bumps other posts out, that others may respond to.

Its hard to explain, but there's just something annoying about it.. Saying just ignore it would be like saying "just ignore a spammer.." (not exactly, but you get the point..)

I'd also like to say to aaron that i'm just not a stud/8 player, so i'm just biased.. Please don't take this baloney personally.

Oh cmon Beer ... you are argumenting that you prefer the Stud Forum to have less traffic .. ??

So .. Aaron post some hands .. He know, that the more hands he post, less responce is he going to get, but that is his issue

We all like stud to grow popular, but yet people are arguing, that there are too many post .. there is something fundamentally wrong with this logic or is it just me

You should visit some of the other forums like the SNG forum .. a post hits page 3 within an hour if not responded to, and yet you complain because it is hard for you to press the page 2 button, or that is maybe not it .. perhaps we should have a Beer forum, strictly for your posts ?? LOL

(You being part of the Emery Five .. with me being a stranger, so I do not know what it means, but could that have something to do with it ?? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif )

Ditto. The jail design/construction business is exploding with the improved economy and I have many business trips and commitments over the next 8-10 weeks that will leave me out of pocket a lot. Exciting places such as DeQueen, AR, Seminole, OK, Perry, OK, Fayetteville, AR and Guthrie, OK; all of which are a long ways from Memphis and most are very remote locations (i.e. no internet usually). Looks like I'll be taking a much needed leave of abscence from poker as well for a little while.

Yep--it's a great and booming business. Luckily, Oklahoma has many Indian Casinos so I should be able to jump into a live game once in a while over this period.

The closest jail we've had to you (South Carolina, right?) is in Johnson City, TN, just across the stateline from Boone, NC. If anyone hears a County or municipality that needs a jail, send me a PM. We are always looking.
