Our team has officially resigned.

It would be nice to get an explanation from the three non-participating teammates regarding their complete flakiness and lack of participation, as it would be nice for bonds and I to be compensated our buy-in from them for actually TRYING when they did not, but I'm not expecting either of those anytime soon.

FWIW I think that response was rather immature... in the sense that its like "I am friends with Roman I will back him up"... bottom line is that a lot of people WANTED to play in this and didnt get a chance yet certain people signed up and said they would play then totally bailed on their team. Does best deserve to lose $100 because Roman, MLG and Pokerjoker completely flaked out? Hell no. The point is to not enter a challenge like this if you have no intention on playing. It really pisses me off to be honest and any freerolls or anything that are in the works are going to reflect that in the field. Just because you can afford to flake out on your team doesnt make it ok, bottom line. I think it is pretty sad that a person's word doesnt mean anything either, its a [censored] way to be, in poker or out and online or off. In the end I think best and bonds at the very least deserve all 3 of them coming on here and saying hey guys sorry I didnt play... my reason is xyz. I wont limit this to only those 3 either as they are not the only people who flaked out on their teams.

well, the $100 doesn't mean all that much to me, money-wise. It's more the principle of the matter. I don't really care about the money one way or another (at least in terms of the entry fee itself).

MLG and I did exchange PMs about May 12th where he was saying something along the lines of "sorry, tons of personal/computer issues, will fill my obligation and speak to Roman, never said I was a volume player anyway, lighten up, this is for fun."

I was mostly fine with everything he said as long as he came back and started playing. I haven't seen hide nor hair of him. We are 23 days into this competition. It's pretty clear that barring a miracle, he's sitting this one out for the most part.

Now the "fun" part - if it was truly for "fun" and ultimately thousands of dollars was not on the line here, I wouldn't have said one word. But the fact of the matter is that some team is gonna walk away with 5 grand, and I worked my ass off to do what I said I was gonna do. I think "fun" was experienced, don't get me wrong...but this wasn't something we were doing as a lark. We were doing this for a prize, for money. It killed my ROI and because I was scrambling to get MORE tourneys in than I said I would even play (across more categories than I signed up to play for), my game was more than a little thrown off in the process (I'm sure others have similar stories, so this is not that unusual) and so I'm down quite a piece this month, and somewhat because of this competition.

An analogy - say I entered a $100 NL tourney, and then someone came up behind me and said, ok you gotta play this one blindfolded. I would have no chance to win. That's kind of the way I felt about this competition from the get-go.

As for Roman, I think that MLG probably said to him - hey dude, want to play some tourney thing and Roman probably said "whatever" and probably doesn't even know who his teammates are...much less what's really happening here. If I was primarily 5 tabling 10/20 NL when I log on I wouldn't give a [censored] about some silly MTT competition

PokerJoker - no idea who he is, why he was drafted, where the [censored] he went, or if he's even on this forum anymore.

Most of the blame is on MLG for not staying on people whatsoever or trying to get in touch.

What do I think should happen? It would be a nice gesture if MLG or the other guys who didn't play picked up our entry fees, but there's no real recommended course of action here. I think the main thing is that we overreached a bit on this competition. I'm sure that my team isn't the only team with non-participants, but with 60 guys, having 2-3 guys not follow through is really not surprising. In the future, maybe do a team competition with alternates, that way people do not get screwed.

The bottom line was that communication fell through, most importantly.

It's not like we have to be too concerned about a bright line for future situations, because it's not something we're likely to have to deal with again, and there's nothing stopping us from making another ad hoc decision about what would be best for some hypothetical future situation were one to arise. But it is pretty clear that best and bonds got screwed here, and it seems pretty clear to me that refunding their money would be a fair way to handle this problem.

I don't really care whether the others on the team get their money back or not, but I think these two clearly deserve it.

I appreciate the sentiment, Foucault. However, I do want it to be known that I'm personally not on the prowl for a refund from the contest itself, nor did I make all these comments with that intention. I was mainly just venting. It would be a nice gesture, but I feel that is up to the individual members of the winning team, and I would feel thankful if that gesture was extended, but would NOT feel bad or anything if I didn't get the refund.

You didnt grind out 20/180s to try to win for your team, you didnt reach down to the 4/180s for Cat A scores so you are out of place in that response. Its not just about certain players not wanting to ruin ROI by playing low events, tell that to Sirio and Rizen who have BOTH played 4/180s and had a lot of fun doing so during this challenge. They are two of the best MTT'ers in online poker yet in the spirit of this challenge decided to play some lower tier MTTs to help their team. It is utter BS that some people said they'd play and just didnt. Why even post in the original thread? Its just silly. Don't sign up for something if you dont want to play, you dont log on to Stars, sign up for a $100r and then leave, which is essentially what people did. Anyone who doesn't feel bad for best and bonds once again need to check their moral compass. I find it really easy to see, even on an online message board how much certain people value their word and who I would easily get along with in real life.

Justin, you are probably right, I have no place saying anything, but on a side note, my team members knew what they were getting from me, I haven't had too good results this month, but they knew I'd play all the cat. C's that I could. I never said that I'd be playing B's or A's, because quite frankly I don't want to. I've played every C I could, and I have a 9-5'er. One of my team members went busto the first week of the tourney. To completely change the subject, I've had a lot of fun with this challenge. Initially I really thought I would just play my normal schedule and let the chips fall where they may. Then we got started and I was picked first. I felt somewhat obligated to live up to my draft status, but also on team 'Teh Awesome' we just have some really great guys that got into the spirit of the competition. It's hard NOT to want to do your best when you have guys like DMK, A_Junglen, Schaefer, and Noah_SD (apologies if I misplaced and underscore in there) putting in their best games and cheering you on.

I probably sacrificed EV playing in 4/180s instead of bigger buy ins on another site, but I don't regret it one bit. Sometimes it's not ALL about the money, but about the spirit and fun of the competition. This forum (2+2) is by far my favorite poker forum precisely because of competitions like this, the supportive people at the site, and the interesting strategy discussions that don't really take place anywhere else that I've found (even if my sweat threads have allegedly diluted the strategy threads somewhat /images/graemlins/wink.gif).

Is there a reason we can't just refund Team MLG's money and pretend they were never in the competition? Or at least refund to bonds and best? I know I would appreciate that if I were in their spot.

It's not like we have to be too concerned about a bright line for future situations, because it's not something we're likely to have to deal with again, and there's nothing stopping us from making another ad hoc decision about what would be best for some hypothetical future situation were one to arise. But it is pretty clear that best and bonds got screwed here, and it seems pretty clear to me that refunding their money would be a fair way to handle this problem.

I don't really care whether the others on the team get their money back or not, but I think these two clearly deserve it.

I'm sure I lost money this month playing more MTTs than cash games, but I have had a ton of fun in this competition. I think it was a great idea and it certainly got me to be more active in the forums.

It makes it easier to live with only making 30k this month.

I'm not blaming the competition at all. I think you're misunderstanding me...as a result of my teammates not playing, I tried to overcompensate and play an amount of tourneys that was WAY outside of what was feasible for me to do. I was pressing a bit, and started running really bad because I wasn't playing well. Some MTTers are good enough to 4-table and do it well - this month was about me finding out that's not something I can do well. It's more as a result of the circumstances of my team than anything else.

Honestly, all I wanted to do was just announce that Justin didn't need to tally our scores anymore because our team was gonna be out of it anyway...

I was just venting because a dialogue was created.

And believe me, this is not some sympathy play.

I am not bitter about this competition. I did have some fun playing it and participating in the threads.

Running bad, whatever. I'm up more than enough this year where it just doesn't matter in the long run.

I got a lot out of this competition in terms of knowing where some of my limits are, and that's worthwhile in itself.

As far as playing bad/losing money - I am with you. I mean, I have pissed away soooo much this month by overplaying and whatnot. I think we all have. The mere fact that I still even have a job amazes me, too.

you are way out of line here. he wasnt insinuating that at all, reread it. He was saying that you lived up to what you said but mlg and roman and pokerjoker didnt so by your reasoning you shouldnt have been defending them or the situation. Also your "go play the 4/180s" comment makes you look like a total a-hole whether or not you thought he was saying something about you.

I need some help with plugging some scores in this week. I have my team done but wont have much time this week to do all of them. It is pretty easy to plug numbers into the sheet in the last standings thread. The final scores for Team Canada are

A: 3351.98 (Should be leading)
B: 4302.71 (Should be leading)
C: 2928.54 (2nd place behind team dmk)
Total: 7069.5 (Should be 2nd to dmk)
Grade: 29 (Should be leading)

This should factor out to a score of 58 for Team Canada, dmk then would be 2nd in Cat A and either 2nd or 3rd in grade which factors out to a score of 55-57 points. B and A seem to be the big swing categories as well as Grade. Team Hammertime and Team Funki and Team Last Action Heroes are all within striking distance as well. Some concrete numbers would be nice but I simply dont have the time this week to do it.

This forum (2+2) is by far my favorite poker forum precisely because of competitions like this, the supportive people at the site, and the interesting strategy discussions that don't really take place anywhere else that I've found (even if my sweat threads have allegedly diluted the strategy threads somewhat /images/graemlins/wink.gif).
