Rummy strategy!?

So basically i am baffled why i cant beat my roommate over the long haul when playing rummy heads up. i do way better than he does in poker, so that adds to my confusion.

so i am wondering if there is another level of thinking i am not seeing? anyone wanna give me some pointers the average person might over look? Or perhaps anyone knows of a good site for hints?

we play .10 a point so i figured this fit into this forum.
