I'm thinking of either playing 25 NL or .50/1 Limit Holdem. Im wondering what counts as "playing" a raked hand though. Do I just have to be sitting at the table for 500 hands? or do I actually have to put a certain amount into the pot to count?

You only neeed to be dealt cards in a raked pot.

Exact Party definition:

A hand that a) a player participates in (dealt cards) and b) has generated at least $0.01 in rake for that player. Generated rake is calculated by dividing the total rake collected in that hand by the number of players who were dealt cards.

Time and time again people get this wrong!! Pay attention
people! Every bonus this is asked and every bonus the
same wrong answer is given! As stated one cent for each
player so if you have six or more players the
five cent rake doesn't count!
