In the new Bluff magazine, a former F.B.I. profiler says that you can potentially get information from someone at a poker table by looking at 3 things: feet, hands and face, (in that order).

He never mentioned what the signs were, so does anybody know what a foot tell is? Maybe bouncing your foot up and down means a big hand?

Any foot tell is going to vary by individual with some wider guidelines that apply to all.

If you look into this you will find that as a detective (in law enforcement) what you first do is 'baseline' the subject individual. This means learning what behavior means for this individual. For example a certain movement of hands and/or eyes means lying, while other moves means truthfulness. Specific baselining techniques are used to collect this information.

Once you confirm the baseline behavior you are ready to go work. A large minority of subjects have non-typical or slightly modified from typical baseline behavior.

Thus the need for discovering individual baseline behavior and baseline confirmation.

One of the best poker players I know is a law enforcement detective. It's unreal how deep he gets into our tourney event with an 80+ field. He reaches the final table about 50% of the time.

Hi Dan,

I've had psychology professors who couldn't explain ideas half as well as you did. Well done.

I can't wait until someone at a WPT final table crawls under the table repeatedly to get foot tells and makes it a socially acceptable thing to do.

All we need know is "sunglasses" for feet. Next time when I go to the casino I'll wear a long dress to hide my feet.

Tapping foot or leg indicates adrenaline rush, and big hand.

At a recent tourney at final table, I forced a fold from a big raiser to whom I all-ined with junk by tapping my foot rapidly when I saw him go to look under the table. And then tilted him a little when I showed him 96off.

At my home game one of the guys is a figity type person and is always bouncing his right leg. (the baseline, or control). When he bluffs he stops, and doesn't realize it. If it keeps bouncin' away, after he bets he has some kind of hand. Even if I'm directly across the table I can usually tell, by looking at his mid-section, if he's doing it.
