Anyone know of a good book on how people of the past built boats? Stuff like bamboo boats, viking boats, etc. Basically I watched the series LOST and I thought it was interesting to watch them build a bamboo boat. Building a proper sea-worthy boat is something I don't know how to do. I've been out in the sea and I know it can get rough.
Any recs?
Here is list of books (ancient ships mostly): Ship Building (http://cma.soton.ac.uk/HistShip/shipb05.htm)
This list covers about everything from boat building to sail making:
Boat Building Books (more modern) (http://coastweather.com/html/bbfile6.html)
Ancient ship building in India (http://www.infinityfoundation.com/mandala/t_es/t_es_agraw_ships_frameset.htm)
Ancient boat building in Egypt: Down the Nile etc. (http://www.solarnavigator.net/ancient_egyptian_boat_building.htm)
Here is another one: Ship building in China (http://www.chinastyle.cn/transportation/tools-shipbuilding.htm)
I think that is a good start. You should be able to cruise on your own from this point.
